There are some limitations performing click-to-dial from CRM applications (eg Outlook 2010) to the CounterPath X-Lite Softphone. I  found an alternate solution.

You would need to carry out these steps

a) Have a working obi device (Obviously) such as the Obi100, Obi110 or Obi202

b) Register an ObiTalk account at http://www.obitalk.com/obinet/. Take note of the 9 digits Obi Number that starts with 290, example 290 123 456. It is set as SpeedDial 1 (SpDial in the picture. This number is different from the Obi Devices numbers which starts with 200.

I would suggest to use the ObiTalk to Add and then configure your OBi Devices. If done properly, the status will turn green as shown in the picture. The ObiOn software on your computer can then communicate between your computer and the Obi Devices via the ObiTalk network. Please note that ObiOn PC is formerly called ObiApp PC, so I will use ObiOn PC from now on.

c) Download the latest ObiOn PC SoftPhone Middleware at the pagehttp://www.obihai.com/obiapps.html or download directly from this link http://www.obihai.com/firmware/OBiAPPsetup.exe. Install and then use the ObiOn to log onto the ObiTalk Network.

Look at the properties as shown and take note of the SIP port number and RTP Ports Numbers. Usually 5060 and 36000 respectively.

d) Surf to NCH Software - Express Talk VoIP Softphone for non-commercial use or download directly from this http://www.nch.com.au/talk/talksetup.exe. Kaspersky and other anti-virus software may complain that there is a trojan but this is a false positive. What this means is that NCH softwares uses proproetery programming methods to 'hook' onto your window operating system contactlist so that when the phone rings, the softphone will check the caller ID and show you who is calling. However, because their method 'seem' like a trojan (ie keyloggers), hence the anti-virus software may complain. Please google regards this or if you are NOT comfortable to proceed, stop here.

d1 - Accept the agreement

d2 - Add extra programs if you want, if not press Finish to complete installing the software

d3 - The next screen is a wizard that guides you through the various options in the software, such as microphone, sound volume etc etc. You can go through each and every page OR....in this guide, just click to close  this wizard. This is because we will key in our custom Obi settings and the other options can be adjusted if you don't like the recommended default. You can run the various wizards to setup audio, check network etc again so lets skip forward or this guide will have 10 more images that will not be relevant to 99% of the people as everyone has different computer settings/capabilities. Lets do the Obi Settings first.

d4 - Click okay when it complain....see post #2 to enter the obi settings

This post is for setting the ObiOn settings into the NCH Express Talk Options to make it work

1) Click the Options and choose the tab Lines as shown, enter the information as follows

a) The Full 'Friendly' Display Name: - Enter anything you like, for example I entered ObiTalk

b) Server(SIP Proxy or Virtual PBX): - Enter 127.0.0.1
    - This means that Express Talk Softphone will communicate with the ObiOn PC software installed on your computer. 127.0.0.1 is the localhost

c) SIP Number (or User Name): Enter the 9 digit ObiTalk number starting with 290 you record down in post#1 part b. For example I entered 290 123 456

d) Leave the password empty. This is because up till now, we are joining the wire between the softphone to the ObiOn PC software so there is minimum information needed as both software are on the same computer. The actual password is stored in the ObiOn PC software which you setup in Post #1.

2) Click the tab Network and enter the values as shown. These are typically 5060 and 36000. Then click on the "Run Network Setup Wizard" button and the software will try to open the incoming ports so audio from the internet can reach your computer. When window firewall shows up and ask you for permission to allow the ports to be open, press allow. When the Wizard completes, press the Enter button and your settings are all done!

3) Check that the Express Talk softphone has now registered with the ObiOn PC software. Dial some numbers on the softphone and you will see some information in the Call state....

This ends the guide to setup the softphone, If the softphone dials, then you have entered the values correctly. If the call doesn't go through, check your Obi devices settings, especially under the call status to see if the number you press in the softphone is received at the Obitalk side correctly. Check firewall settings etc

Please feedback if the settings doesn't work on your side.
