Today, you have a way today to use the Google Talk client with your OBi device configured with Google Voice.  This requires that you have separate Google accounts for your OBi device and Google Talk client running on the Windows or MAC pc.

To Make Calls to the OBi (Ring the Phone or Make a New Call):
1.  Add the Google Account name for your Google Talk on the pc to your Trusted Callers list in OBiTALK.
2.  Add the Google Account name for your Google Talk on the pc as a Google Talk Buddy to the Google Account that you are using on the OBi device.
3.  To call the OBi from the pc, just make a Google Talk call to your "Buddy" associated with the OBi device.
4.  Since the Google Talk account name being used to call from the pc is in the Trusted Callers list of the OBi, the OBi Attendant will answer and offer the pc user the option to ring the phone connected to the OBi (Option 1) or make new call (Option 2).  Use the keyboard on the pc to type 1 or 2 and press Enter.  If you are making a New Call, be sure to type the ten digit number followed by the "#" sign (Shift+3) and Enter.

To call the MAC from the OBi:
1.  Configure a Speed Dial number for the Google Account name for the Google Talk client running on the pc.
2.  Pick up the phone attached to the OBi and dial the speed dial number to ring the Google Talk client on the pc.

Remember:
In order for the OBi device to answer the incoming G-Talk call with the OBi Attendant, you need to put the caller's Gmail user name in the "Phone Number" field of the OBiTALK Trusted Callers listing.

E.g. "GTalk-caller@gmail.com"

When GTalk-caller places a call to their OBi "buddy" from Google Talk, the OBi device will answer the call with its OBi Attendant.  The caller will then have the choice to use their pc's keyboard to press:

1 to Continue the call - i.e. Ring the attached phone.
2 to Make a new call - Dial with the pc keyboard a regular telephone number followed by the #.
3 to Enter a Callback Number - Dial with the pc keyboard a number that the OBi will use to make the call back call.

For those suffering severe battery draining when using the OBiON on the various smart phones, this should also be a work around solution if the OBiON is too resource hungry on the smart phone. There is a GTALK app available for these smart phones. You might loose some ability without the OBiON, at least you will be able to make outgoing calls using the OBi AA.

I am optimistic in using OBi but will it work for me?
- Can I use google voice?
- Can Chilean numbers be able to call me, if yes... will they need to call my US google number or is there a Chilean number they will use?
- Are there other costs to making these calls (connection charge, etc)?
- What will the rates be?
- Do I have to use Google voice or skype or is this a standalone system?

To use the OBi, you need an always-on broadband connection (DSL, cable, fiber, etc.), with a modem and router having an available Ethernet port.  You also need a standard corded or cordless phone.

The OBi does not include phone service; you can use it with a Google Voice account, with a SIP provider, or a combination of providers.  According to https://www.google.com/voice/rates?hl=en_US&currency=USD , GV rates to Chile are $0.03 landline; $0.10 mobile (they may have raised rates since you saw the $0.02).  You can find lower rates elsewhere, but the quality might not be as good, so you may have to risk a few dollars to experiment. With GV (and most other providers), there is no connection charge or other fees, you just pay per minute for the calls.

You can get an incoming Chile number for your OBi from several providers.  There is a monthly fee, but no charge to receive a call.  For example, an Anveo Personal Unlimited number is $7.50/mo.  If you only need to receive calls from specific contacts (recognized by their caller ID), you can use Localphone or Rebtel to avoid the monthly charge.

The lowest cost providers are the Betamax companies http://backsla.sh/betamax , though quality is usually not the best.  For example, Easyvoip is $0.007 to Chile landline and $0.02 to mobile.  Another inexpensive choice is CallWithUs, a small company with IMO better support.  You might also look at Localphone and Voxbeam (two brands of the same company); both offer a small credit at signup, so you can test without making a payment.

You can also set up your OBi so you can call it from your mobile.  You hang up before it answers and it calls you back.  You can then place an outgoing call, which would allow you call at lower cost, when you are away from home.  Who is your mobile carrier?

Yes and No. You need to use a workaround.
I did it by using Wine, which lets simple windows programs run on the mac. I posted the instructions on the Linux thread.
