Title: Obi200 - Proper Way to Perform Factory Reset?
Post by: chilirock on March 09, 2016, 12:59:13 PM
What is the proper way to perform a factory reset on an Obi200?

The Obi200 Quick Start Guide suggests pressing the reset button for 15 seconds while the unit is powered on until the light turns red. This seems pretty easy.

The FAQ on the ObiTalk Support site suggests unplugging the device, pressing the reset button, then plugging in the device while holding the reset button for 10 seconds after powering the device, releasing the button, waiting 5 more seconds. This seems more complicated.

There is also an option to use ***8 from the IVR to reset the device. This seems to be the easiest.

What is the recommended approach? What do most people do?

It doesn't matter.  They all do exactly the same thing, including the method you didn't discover yet:  doing it from the device's local web interface.

Thanks Steve. Which method do you use as your preferred method?

With the power on, I gently depress the recessed reset switch with a paper clip, and hold it until the power LED starts flashing.  Works always.  There really isn't any need to start with the power off, and doing so takes three hands and is likely to make the hand being used to depress the switch slip off of the switch.  Lately, I have been telling people to use the ***8 method instead, because some fools have broken the switch by jamming things into the hole too aggressively   :o
