Title: Obi 1062 Intercom
Post by: eddiedon on April 06, 2017, 12:11:35 PM
We have 3 Obi 1062 phones and would like to be able to push one of the buttons to initiate an intercom communication with either of the 2 other phones. How is this enabled?

I don't know how to setup an intercom and since I only have one OBi1032 I have no interest to learn how. However, I know how to call another OBi device using a programmable key. Use OBi expert to make the following change.

IP Phone -> Programmable Keys -> Key x
Function: Presence Monitor
Service: OBiTalk
Number: 610123456

Replace 610123456 with the OBi number of the target OBi1062
Take the phone off-hook and press the program key.

OBi numbers are listed on the OBiTalk dashboard
Make sure there isn't any code in the receiving OBi1062 that will send the call to the Auto Attendant. The default is to send the call to the phone, but sometimes code is added by OBiTalk to send the call to the AA. It will be found here:

Voice Services -> OBiTalk Service -> InboundCallRoute

I have two 1062 phones, I have setup a link between the two and assigned an extension (20, 21) to both units.  When I select the ObiLINE button and dial the extension the other phone rings.  Also, I've used *96 "barge in" to simulate the auto answer intercom feature found on most phones.  I'm new to this, so I'm still learning the ins and outs.

Hello cmenow ...

I have 4 1062s and I would like to use them in a similar way ... intercom phone-to-phone (without using my outside VOIP provider, possibly just on the internal LAN or using the OBITalk Network).

And, I'd like to be able to the barging function too.   I had many exchanges with others on this forum and with OBI itself, and no one was able to help.

Can you please provide me any details on how to do what you say you've done?

Thanks!

kayrjay...

I simply dial *96 and then the OBi number (or extension) and it allows me to break through whatever is happening on that extension as an intercom call.  Not exactly what I want to do all the time, meaning, I would rather just have the extension ring if that extension is on another call, otherwise, the auto answer intercom would occur.  For some reason, i can't get this setup correctly.

I linked the two units using the "link devices" in the OBiTALK portal settings, see attached.

Thank you ... I'd like to try that.  I was told that I had to have support from my VOIP provider for this function, but perhaps not, since you are making calls over the OBITalk network, it looks like.  Are you able to do barging without support for the "Busy Lamp Field"?  See below ... and thanks again!

I asked the following of OBI:

I am trying to enable barging among my 4 1062s.  I want to allow any of the 4 1062s to barge
into an active call on any of the others.  None is a "manager" or "agent", as it is a residential
          application.

They said:

You will need to configure a Line key with Busy Lamp Field function to monitor other phone, for
one phone to monitor other three, you will need to set up three different Busy Lamp Field keys.
Once the monitor is working, you can enable the X_BlfBargeIn, X_BlfCallPickup or
           X_BlfDirectedCallPickup under SPx Service.

Most importantly, it requires your service provider to support it as well.

Unfortunately, my VOIP provider does not support the SIP SUBSCRIBE and NOTIFY packets required for the Busy Lamp Field (BLF) feature.

When I try the *96 deal, I enter the other extension, which apparently does barge in, but it seems to put the incoming call on hold.  That is, when I barge into a call that my wife is on in her office, she hears me and I hear her, but the call she was/is on is not part of our two-way conversation.   I wonder if I'm doing something wrong.

I think I know why this doesn't work ... I was trying to barge into a conversation between my wife and an incoming caller who was NOT using the OBITalk network.  Since the incoming call was on a different VOIP service, I could not barge in.

Darn.

I wonder if there would be a way to forward calls from my VOIP provider to OBITalk so that all incoming calls seemed to come from an OBITalk phone?  Then barging might work ... but no doubt I wouldn't have the functionality that the VOIP provider gives me ...

Oh well.

@kayrjay

Have you considered what I pointed you to in your other thread?

I don't have the time right now to install a PBX.   And it sounds more complicated than I want to deal with.  But thanks for the suggestion.

the *96 barge in works great, but I havent been able to get it to work with the programmable keys.

Open to any intercom type solution that works the same way with a programmable key

My understanding is that you can only barge into a call that has been placed/is running on the OBITalk network, and not a call placed via a third-party VOIP service.  Oh well ...

*96 barge in is definitely via the obi network, so to/from obi phones only. With the phone on hook feature it would really only make sense for 1022 1032 1062.

but, with respect to that dialling phone, while I haven't got too advanced into auto attendant aa stuff, but couldnt you use a non obi phone to get to the aa, send it some codes, then have the aa dial an obi phone on the obi network and get back barge in?

Interesting idea ... of course I wouldn't want the outside caller to know that the redirection of the call was happening, and without having to respond to the "attendant".   So, if I could make it entirely automatic and transparent, that would be cool.

Don't have time just now to test it, so let me know if you do try it out!

I think have a solution for your barge-in with a Program Key. I only own a single OBi1032, so I couldn't test barge-in. I defined a Program Key to set DND and then call an OBi110. I used OBi Expert to define a Program Key like this:

IP Phone -> Programmable Keys -> Key x
Function: Speed Dial
Service: Blank
Number: *78**9xxxxxxxxx

Just change *78 to *96 and use the destination OBi number after the **9

Hello, This worked like a charm!! Thanks so much. extremely useful.

I think my mistake before was using the speed dials, so I had tried things like
*96**920#

I think I was doing this because I was using
*9620#

to dial when using barge in manually...

Anyhow, problem now corrected and thanks again!
