Researching details about obi before purchase, I stumbled on some old discussions

..which indicated that obitalk does not work with GV accounts which have a non-gmail primary email address. This discussion is old, so I wanted to find out if this limitation still holds, since my GV account falls into this category.

I spent a lot of time trying to get to the true answer, so I would like to share, in case others have a need for this info.

Interestingly, the answers from Obi support were completely incorrect. At first, tech support ignored my email. Then I reached to their "info" and "sales" email addresses, and did receive responses:  one did not address my question, while the other confirmed that obitalk cannot work with non-gmail GV accounts.

Then, while reading the entire obi admin guide (http://www.obihai.com/OBiDeviceAdminGuide) ,  I stumbled on this little tidbit:


This sounded like it contradicted the answer from obi support, so I decided to risk it, and purchased an Obi202. The configuration went smoothly, and within a few minutes I had a working Obi->GV connection. I had no problems configuring Obi with my GV account which does not have a Gmail address associated with it.

So there you have it.

It is disappointing that Obi support was unable to provide the correct info. That is why I am posting this, so that others with a similar scenario do not have to waste time researching.

Is your non-Gmail domain using Google Apps ??
And:
How does one even GET a GV number without a Gmail address ??
