Title: (Solved) FW update broke ringing in
Post by: Kage on May 20, 2017, 12:33:12 PM
Today I made the mistake of updating with the OBi202-3-1-1-5657 firmware because outside calls no longer ring in. The previous version 3-1-1-5589 was working perfectly and to make sure I hooked up obi100 just now and that's still good so it isn't Google Voice, it has to be the firmware update.

Everything calls out normally with 3-1-1-5657, it just doesn't ring in anymore, at least through the Google Voice website portal with the Mozilla Google Talk plugin. So I'm forced to disconnect the obi200 and stay with obi100 to have a functioning box.

Re-install 5589.

I've not had any ringing problems with incoming calls to GV and the OBi202 or with using the web portal, even with the latest update. I just tested them again. Just some feedback to help you troubleshoot for other potential problems.

Thanks azrobert, I've got that FW version saved but will it install over the newer version? I want to be sure before trying it. I attempted to revert to the factory firmware through the button on the bottom and ***8 but it doesn't go back.

Mine is obi200, I don't know if that makes a difference but there's no ringing in since the update. I've tried everything, including re-configuring through the obi portal. As of now, unless I can get an older firmware version installed this box is a paper weight. As they say if ain't broke, don't fix it.

The OBi200 and OBi202 use the same firmware. I have an OBi200 and have downgraded the firmware in the past, but not from 5657.

Manually upgrade the firmware:

Log directly into the OBi using the local interface.
Key the IP address of the OBi into a Web Browser and hit Enter
The UserID and default Password are both "admin".
Click System Management then Device Update.
Under Firmware Update click Browse and find the FW file then click Update.

My bad, somehow AnonymousCallBlockEnable was checked and was preventing some calls from getting through. Don't know how because I've never had that set to block.

Either the moderator can delete this thread or mark it as solved, I don't want to discourage anyone form updating firmware if it's not a problem.

@azrobert, thanks again, I always download FW and install manually. It's good to know that I can revert back to an older version if need be.

The reset button on the bottom and the ***8 reset method set parameters to the default values for the installed firmware.  They do not return the firmware to the version that was in the flash chip when the device was manufactured.  The flash chip holds one only version of the firmware at a time.  When you do an update (or downgrade) the previous version is overwritten.

@drgeoff ok thanks for that clarification, not sure if they might have had the original factory version stored that could overwrite a newer one with a reset.

It doesn't look like you can install an older version over an updated one either:

A previous thread in 2014 may not be speaking directly at the type of minor downgrade that you are thinking about. Have you tried to downgrade your firmware with the link that azroberts provided: http://fw.obihai.com/OBi202-3-1-1-5589.fw

What happens when you do?

That post is almost 4 years old. ObiHai changed policy and now downgrades are allowed.

@LTN1, no, no need to, it was a simple configuration setting that I had missed. With that change 3-1-1-5657 seems to be fine.

@azrobert, well it looks like Google works better for you than me :--)

Obi should allow for a downgrade since it's very easy to miss something in testing of newer firmware versions and break features so if they do that's good.

How do you search?

I usually do an OBi search first, but if I get a bunch of false hits and can't find what I'm looking for, I do a Google search like this:
site:obitalk.com "downgrade"

The keywords I used were "restore old firmware obi200" and that link posted was right on top. It might be a good idea for the moderators to consider posting a sticky regarding firmware downgrades.
