Title: new obi202 user, set up obi device, registered, not yet set up google voice
Post by: Tim1967 on August 05, 2017, 08:26:49 AM
I just finished installing and registering my OBi202 device.  I have not yet gotten Google voice service.  I really don't know how OBi works.  Can I place an outgoing phone call at this point?  When I try to call my cell phone, I keep getting the message "no service configured error, please log on to obitalk.com and configure your device"

Without a VoIP service provider configured on the OBi the only* calls it can make are to other OBi devices. No  calls to or from 'real' phone numbers.

You can call the echo test number **9 222 222 222 and have a convetsation with yourself.  :)

Google Voice is one provider but there are dozens of others.

(* not strictly true as direct SIP calls can be made but that is seldom useful and way too advanced for a beginner.)

Thanks - looks like the next step is to get Google voice - after I convert my landline to wireless.
