Title: Linked devices? Line keys and speed dial?
Post by: kayrjay on September 13, 2017, 04:30:48 PM
I have four 1062s in a residential application, obviously all on the same LAN.  Currently I've set them all up as "linked devices".   According to this info, https://www.obitalk.com/forum/index.php?topic=9518.msg63147#msg63147 (https://www.obitalk.com/forum/index.php?topic=9518.msg63147#msg63147), I should be able to do extension dialing (e.g., sort of like an intercom) and transfer calls between the phones.

It's not working as I'd like.  I can dial a number on the number pad (like 23 or 23#) and it works fine to ring the other number.   But if I put the extension number on the line key (either 23 or 23#), I get a message that "the number you have dialed is invalid".  What am I doing wrong?

Just curious ... since the phones are all on the same LAN, can the calls be placed without going out to my VOIP provider?  Doing so of course uses up one outgoing and one incoming call.

Try defining the Line Key like this:
Function: Speed Dial
Service: Blank
Number: 23

If that doesn't work try:
Function: Call
Service: OBiTalk
Number: 123456789

Replace 123456789 with the 9 digit OBi Number of the phone you're calling.

You are using the OBiTalk network, not your VOIP provider to call the other phones. If you don't want to use the OBiTalk network, you can call using the IP address of the other phones.

Actually, I should have said it does work when I use Speed Dialing, but not Linked Devices.  That is, if I set up the Line Keys to use an extension number, like 123, it works fine (but the call appears to come from my outside line as identified by Caller ID).

I am trying to use the OBI Dashboard, and not the OBI Expert Configuration to set up these line keys.   The dashboard doesn't give me the options you suggest.  If I put in OBITalk, it prompts for the OBI number.  I surely don't want to enter 9 digits!

Maybe it's not possible to set up the 1062's line keys to use two-digit dialing and place the call over the OBITalk network?
