Title: Can't ping device to remove OBI200 from recovery mode per support page
Post by: magicwine on November 04, 2017, 10:34:21 AM
I use Google Voice. Yesterday I couldn't get a dial tone, so knowing in the past unplugging the 200 and then replugging it in cleared problems, that's what I did. However, after that all I get is red and green alternating lights. Tried unplugging and waiting 1/2 hour or more and replugging in, still get red and green alternating lights.

Searching I found this means the device lost power while doing an update and it is in recovery mode. I followed the steps, downloading the firmware update. It stated to make sure you can ping the device's IP,  but cmd prompt tries 4 times and it can't reach the device and it can't log in to the devices webpage to upload the software either. This makes sense because the device is stuck.

So I have to assume based on the red and green alternating lights support page, that even with these lights, I should be able to ping and also access the ip address in a browser?

When I purchased the 200 I spent weeks on my own and with the support of helpful folks on this forum to finally get it to work, so I really don't want to factory reset it. What are my options to get it working again and clear the red and green alternating lights?

Thanks for your help.

Bob

I have the same problem now on my obi200.

I can get all lights green and working by plugging in the power cord but not the ethernet or phone. Once the power light turns green I can use it for anywhere from 2-20 minutes before it breaks again.

During that uptime, I tried factory reset, but it didn't help.
I also tried updating the firmware, but it says the new firmware is identical to the firmware already installed so it won't update it. Not sure what to do at this point - I guess the device is just physically broken?

I am not sure if this is your issue, or if you are using Google Voice, but I found a thread that stated if you login to your account, choose your SP # such as SP1, there is a choice to reconnect to your Google account.

This fixed it for me.

Once it happened again fairly quickly (can't remember if it was the same or next day), but it permanently fixed it.

Then a few months later same thing again.

So far after reconnecting it it's working for at least 2 weeks now.

Hope this helps you.

Could be a dying wallwart.  Try another if you have one.  Does not need to be OBihai branded,  12 volt, more than 800mA, centre positive and plug that fits.

oops - never saw this reply. I had already tried another wallwart.
Basically, I had another working obi, and i just swapped it for the defective one to rule everything else out, and no help.
