Title: Setting up Obi outside of USA
Post by: them on July 08, 2019, 11:35:23 AM
I've received an Obi as a gift and adding the device and everything else goes well, but when I try to setup google voice it says "couldn't create a google voice account". After looking it up apparently google voice is a USA only service, and all tries to set up google voice either say '403 forbidden' or 'registration not required',has anyone else tried to set up Obitalk outside of the USA and how?

Part of the process of getting a GV number is you inputting a US phone number. Google then call that number and, when answered, speak a couple of verification digits which you type into the web page.

In the distant past it was possible to input a US number from a VoIP provider and answer the verification call from almost anywhere in the world. Google tightened up on that. :-(

However, once the OBi is successfully configured in the US with GV it will continue to work elsewhere unless the goverment/telco/ISP actively blocks it.
