Title: trouble porting mobile number to google voice for obi use

A few years ago I ported my Centurytel home phone number to a Verizon cell. 

That worked fine but now when I try to port that number from my verizon cell to google voice, I get this message from google voice " This number appears to be from an area we don't currently support for porting." 

Why would the original landline number from centurytel port just fine to a verizon wireless cell but now not to google voice?  I verified I can port the number from verizon wireless to att cell etc. just fine.

There are all kinds of bizarre things going on with GV. After I opened an extra prepaid account with T-mobile and ported, the next step, the porting from T-mobile to GV was initiated but never finalized. After several weeks I had to call AMEX and cancel the order. Never received any explanation in spite of multiple postings on GV forum, e-mails and whatever.
