Title: OBiBT Bluetooth Adapter for Pairing the OBi202 with a Mobile Phone Now Available
Post by: ShermanObi on August 04, 2012, 10:53:56 PM
The OBiBT Bluetooth Adapter for pairing the OBi202 with a mobile phone is now available for $25 with free shipping at Amazon.com.

http://www.obihai.com/obibt/

The Obihai OBiBT Bluetooth Wireless Adapter allows a USB equipped OBi device like the OBi202 to pair with a mobile phone so you can place calls and answer calls using your standard home cordless and corded phones connected to the OBi. The OBiBT works with most mobile phones using Bluetooth wireless technology. After the initial pairing between the mobile phone and the OBiBT has been set-up, when your mobile phone is in 'Bluetooth range" of the OBiBT, it will connect to your mobile phone automatically.

OBiBT Requirements:
- OBi202 VoIP Adapter with USB Port
- Mobile Phone with Bluetooth Audio Pairing Capability
- Regular Analog / Digital Corded or Cordless Phone

Now THIS is more like it. I do wish however you could have integrated WiFi and BT (there are already chips that do this). Anyway is there a limit to how many phones one can pair with the Obi202?

I agree that this Adapter should have been combined with the WiFi Unit.  My question is:  how do you use both the WiFi and Bluetooth Adapter at the same time?  Is this possible?  Or do you have to use one or the other?

It seems to be an open question if the USB port is a one port/one device setup or not.

As for using OBiWiFi and OBiBT simultaneously, this is possible.

We recommend the use of a well-regarded USB 2.0 (or better) hub like these:

Belkin USB 2.0 4-Port Ultra-Mini Hub ($5.99)

CyberPower High-Speed 7-Port USB Hub ($29.99)

Just ordered the OBiBT Adapter, going to have it replace my "Gigaset One" and cut back on another device that I have to keep powered on for my PBX. Electricity is just too expensive nowadays.

If you update your OBI202 to the latest version, and login using the device IP address there are some settings for OBiBlueTooth.
You can pair up to 10 phones with OBI202! and there is a menu to choose the preferred one.

Darn...wish I saw this sooner...because I just bought an OBi110 and a phoneline to BT Cellular gateway.

Though...I did want another OBiTALK unit.

This hasn't been a need for my current OBi202, because I have a Panasonic KX-TG7644M connected to it....but perhaps something I'll kind in mind for when I get my second OBi202.

How well does the Panasonic, Phone to cell work? I've heard mixed reviews on that feature?

Well this is interesting. Apparently ObiBT doesn't like Nokias. Or Nokias don't like ObiBT. I'm not certain which. A sluggish phone, and some lockups. Wait! There's more. Apparently **8+number is followed by "disconnected from Obi". Lovely!

The *28 is an issue with callcetric. all I get is a message that I dialed an invalid number.

Also some random Obi crashes that requires the power to be cycled to recover when the BT is installed. I have had no issues with my Obi202 crashing. not even with the Obi wifi adapter. only issues with the wifi adapter is that it drops the wireless connection often.

Edit: Other BT issues

I get a busy signal on all outbound calls. same results on 5 diffrent phones

@Ostracus - Please post or send the model of the Nokia phone.
@Billt928 - Have you been able to make an outgoing call using **8 and a destination number via the cellular carrier?  Does the number get connected properly (via your cell phone)?

I can get the incoming call to ring but 9 out of 10 times I loose the call as soon as I answer. I have not been able to make any outbound call using the **8

Also the paring by using the *28 is useless when using callcentric. the only response is a callcentric invalid number MSG. I had to pair the devices by using the hardware interface to make the BT visible

I have the current firmware and the Hardware version is 1.2  I also did a full reset on the box or should I say the BT module caused it on one of the random crashes since installing it.

 ???

Is it possible to initiate a call from AA using the ObiBT?
If I use my house phone that is attached to OBI2 to make a call through my cell phone (Iphone is paired with OBI202), everything works perfect (outgoing and incoming).
But when I'm away from home (iphone is still home and paired with OBI202) and I try to use AA this is what I get (OBIBT is the primary line):
I dial my SP1 from my Sumsung cell phone, press 2 to make a new call, I enter the number 12125551234#, then the iphone (which is paired with OBI202) dial the number. Till here everything is working the way it suppose to be.
The issue I'm having is: When the person answers the call, i can't hear anything from my Sumsung phone, the conversation is between the Iphone and the person i called!
I tried 3 different cell phones, but the result is the same.
Also when using the AA, when I hung up the other party does not get disconnected.

Extremely well, especially with iPhone 4/4S. Millions of features - It looks like Panasonic made a deal with Apple and it's supported all the way through.

Seems as though some integrated Bluetooth base stations work and some do not - especially the older models.

I had the Panasonic KX-TH1211B. This model never worked at all...

However, it appears this newer one from Panasonic for $170 is not so bad:

Be advised that OBI202 as GSM gateway doesn't work from a remote location (Auto Attendant). Correct me if I'm wrong.
Title: Re: OBiBT Bluetooth Adapter for Pairing the OBi202 with a Mobile Phone Now Available
Post by: OBiSupport on August 14, 2012, 03:12:31 PM
You may reach the OBi202 AA from the VoIP side of the OBi202 (via OBiTALK or the four available SIP/GV accounts) and then make a call via OBiBT paired to a mobile phone using Option 2 make a new call (or Option 3 call back) and then entering the destination number prepended with **8, e.g. **8 1 212 555 xxxx.

From a remote location, when calling in from the mobile service via the OBiBT the calls will route to the Phone 1 or Phone 2 (or both) port(s) and ring the phone.  Through manual configuration, the Inbound call route of the Bluetooth interface can be set to route to the aa.

Use the OBi Expert Configuration page of the OBi202 to change the Inbound Call Route for the Bluetooth interface.

OBISupport, I think the OBIBT still has a lot of bugs to fix.
When I call from a remote location to AA (on SP1), and I press 2 to make a new call, then **81212555xxxx#, the call goes through the paired cell phone but there is no sound on the remote caller.
this is the scenario:
Caller1 (718555xxxx) call AA (SP1)
AA bridge the call using Cell2 (paired with OBI202)
Cell2 dial   Caller3 at 347666xxxx.
The result should be Caller1 (718555xxxx) and Caller3 (347666xxxx) are connected.
Unfortunately, OBIBT Connect  Cell2 and Cell3   !!!
Caller1 only hears absolute silence, all activity is between Cell2 and Cell3 which defeats the purpose of using OBI202 OBIBT as a GSM VOIP bridge.
What's weird also, is when I use the same scenario with the call back feature (press 3) everything works fine. So I guess this is jus a bug in the OBIBT that needs to be fixed.

You can only use the one from OBhai. I tried a bluetooth dongle from motorola and it didn't work.

so has anyone tried using obi202 as gsm gateway (remotely calling the SP1 and routing a call via the bluetooth phone? likewise, has anyone routed calls made to BT phone to the SP1 or AA?

(shermanobi's reply to azouz's post should work in theory..that's how i setup my obi110 and the POTS line connected to it).

Post by: Azouz on August 24, 2012, 06:55:34 PM
I have two (2) OBI202 with OBIbt.
I had 3 major issues with the bluetooth device.
1) Not bridging the calls correctly.
I was one of the first ones to get those bluetooth dongles. I had so many issues with the 1st one. It didn't bridge the call correctly. When I dial SP1, the call gets bridged between the cell phone (paired with OBi202) and the number I'm trying to call. You don't hear anything on the SP1.
Tech support have updated the firmware to fix that issue. But still, the the system is not 100% reliable. It's like hit and miss, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't , for no apparent reason. When I check the OBI202 system settings all lines are connected and registered. But when I make a call I get stuck at OBIbt state: "Trying"
==================================
Call 2             Terminal 1                         Terminal 2
Terminal ID           AA1                                  OBiBlueTooth1
State                    trying                              trying
Peer Name
Peer Number   1202                                   1202
Start Time           20:34:12                          20:34:12
Duration           00:00:01                           00:00:01
Direction           Outbound                           Outbound
===================================

2) Caller ID not shown correctly when I get a call from the cell phone that is paired with OBi202:
This also a major issue, because it affects calls routing and the call back feature.
This issue also has been fixed with the latest firmware.
I'm running a beta firmware. I don't know if it's released for the public.
SoftwareVersion   3.0.0 (Build: 3402MD)

3) Sound quality:
The sound quality is not as good as the VOIP lines. You will notice a decrease sound quality and latency.

My second OBi202 is for testing purposes, if someone one wants to try the OBIbt, PM and I'll add you to my Trusted Callers for a temporary period of time.

Conclusion:
The OBibt should be still in beta state. It's not ready yet for public release.

Please if you have an OBiBT share your experience with us.

Ostracus,
I had the same issue where my OBiBt was not discoverable, (*28 or Enable Discoverable  from the web portal didn't make the OBIBt visible to my phone).
I did a factory reset and that solved the problem.

I agree 100% The product seems as if it is being beta tested on the paying customers. Guess getting the product released and generating income for Obi outweighed proper beta testing. I purchased two of them when they were released and they are both now disabled due to the numerous issues.

I do beta testing for a few tech companies and would have never given my OK to release this product with this many issues to the public.

With the way OBI has been with firmware, proper manuals and customers being keep in the dark about the changes to the firware realy has me reconsidering if I'll continue recommending obi products to any more of my customers

So, this just places calls thru the Cell Phone Service?

It would be awesome if I could use a cell phone, without service, as a BT handset for the Obi adapter.  Like, using my old dumb Moto RAZR as a "house phone"

I think that you can. The voip service providers (SPx), can be bridged with the BT service. Have a look here.

I think what Synapse is asking for is more like the inverse product.

That is to use the Obi202 with bluetooth as some kind of wireless base station for cordless housephones.

Now would that be new hardware, or is there a hope that it could be implemented as a firmware change alone?

What he asks would require special software on the phone as well as the Obi.  It could be done but I don't think it's a worthwhile project.  A re-tasked femtocell would make more sense.  The easy solution would be installing Obi or sip software on the phone.
