I have had the obi110 configured for a month and couldnt use because of static. installed NEW obi and cord and now no service. reset obi.
no static, no service. tried reconfiguring but it says already done.
I am 72, ill health, no phone at all! please e.mail me at gloriasart@gmail.com
I will check here also but have been waiting days for answer.
gloria,
It may be easier to fix this with someone helping you. It may be nothing at all, however it may be difficult to make ourselves understood if you have not had a chance to develop some computer skills. Can you ask someone to look at this for you? (son, daughter, nephew, niece, friend)
The OBi may be easy to set up. This statement is relative. It depends if you have some minimal computer skills. My mother is about your age. God bless her, but I know that she would never be able to set up this box.
any suggestions to try? I paid a pc guy $50 to set up!
Hi gloria,
You mentioned that with the new OBi you now have "no static, no service." Do you at least get a dialtone when you pick up the telephone that is directly connected to your OBi?
pc44 :)
yes, then I dial and voice says no service
tried to reconfigure and it shows pc online, soft phone not connected
Good! Well, not "good" but progress. Next question... are you able to log in to either your OBi Device Webpage or your OBiTalk Portal? If so, please tell us what you see on the System -> System Status page for your SP1 and SP2 provider status.
Thanks,
pc44

I think that is okay, because I do not believe you are using a softphone in your setup. Please also let us know which VoIP provider(s) are you using? Google Voice or who?
pc44
google voice. The guy who set up plugged cable phone line into obi. static.
but worked. guy on phone, (i still had one) told me to plug phone directly into obi. no static, dial tone, no service
Please tell us what you see on the System -> System Status page for your Google SP status. It should say connected.
On the OBi110, there are two ports for the telephone line. Which one are you plugging your telephone into?
pc44
plugged in to phone
sp1 says offline
sp2 says online
If you dial, **2 and then a test phone number, such as 1-800-FREE-411, does the call go through? It sounds as though you are only set up on SP2.
pc44
says no service
how to setup sp1?
I just got my tracfone setup, so I will close now and try again later
thank you very much
If you need to setup SP1, take a look at some of the links in my signature below. There are several guides, as well as screenshot tutorials, for setting up SP1.
You mentioned a tracfone setup, but I am unaware of how that works with the OBi's. Either way, if and when you want to work on the OBi again later, just let us know!
pc44 :)
I'm back to try again.
sp1 says offline
sp2 says online
Well, that didn't take long. :)
Please use these instructions to set up your OBi (http://www.obihai.com/tutorials-tips.html). You may want to read some of the setup guides in my signature below to properly familiarize yourself with the basics of the OBi interface and setup.
pc44
well I've gone over all the set up tits and instructions many times. I follow it all. I ended up with sp1 offline
sp2 offline
I get a dial tone. I did the echo test, the phone works fine on that.
I dial a number and get voice,,,there is no service.
what can I do to get sp1 online?
To get SP1 online, I would strongly suggest setting it up again. Go through the steps to configure GV on SP1. If you want to troubleshoot your existing setup, we will need more information, such as your Service Provider status for SP1 when you go to Status -> System Status -> SP1 Service Status -> Status. It should say Connected, Not Configured, or Backing Off. These messages can help with troubleshooting.
Alternatively, if SP2 is functioning and Connected, you could easily set SP2 as your Primary Line, and you would be instantly good to go. To set SP2 as your Primary Line, go to Physical Interfaces -> PHONE Port -> PrimaryLine.
pc44
it said backing off.
do you think it is because I used a different phone than original setup?
he had the cable wire hooked to obi and then the 50 yr old wall phone worked with bad static.
I unhooked it and plugged in a wireless phone with answering machine directly into obi.
Okay, so it is backing off. No, I do not believe this has anything to do with the telephone you have plugged into the OBi. Backing off usually refers to the connection between your OBi and your VoIP Provider (in this case Google Voice).
After making sure you don't have the same Google Voice account setup on SP2, go to your SP1 settings and checking the username and password. On some GV accounts, we are required to type in the full Google Email Address (whatever@gmail.com) into the username blank. Then, re-type the current Google password. Submit, reboot, and report back here regarding the backing off status.
Voice Services -> SP1 Service -> AuthUserName
Voice Services -> SP1 Service -> AuthPassword
pc44
Is there anyway to delete it all and start completely over, maybe with different e-mail. reset the obi..???
Yes:
System Management -> Device Update -> Reset Configuration -> Reset
how do I get to system management?
pc44,
Just an idea. Some of these procedures can be done using the phone. It might be simpler typing in the digits on the phone.
(Sorry for budding in. Carry on :D)
Okay, let's do it the easier way to which QBZappy was alluding.
Using the telephone connected to your OBi, press ***8 (three stars and then 8).

Thanks for "budding" in, buddy. :)
Once you do a factory reset, you will have to remember all the defaults are reset. Note specifically that the OBi unit is set to get its configuration directly from the portal, NOT from the unit web page. This might cause some confusion.
Gloria, I'm afraid that the $50 that you originally invested to configure the OBi is going to be wasted after the factory reboot. I have not suggested this publicly to anyone before on this forum, but since pc44 has graciously offered to help you, perhaps now that the configuration is being done via the OBiTALK portal, it would be easier if you would let pc44 configure it for you. If you agree to this you can send him a PM with the details that he will need to set it up for you. Do NOT use the forum to exchange those details.
After this works out for you, you will need to adopt pc44. (Don't tell him that I told you, but he once let on to me that he likes fruitcake ;))
I hope this works out for you.
ok, next? you want info by message?
or tracfone?
As QBZappy said, I've also never done that before; however, if it would help you out, I'd be willing to give it a try. It is risky, because you are placing a fair level of trust in a stranger you only know from a forum on the internet. If you want to go that route, just send me a PM. If you would rather not, it's more than understandable, and we can continue trying to troubleshoot the problem here in this forum. :)
pc44
what ever you want to try is ok by me.
Okay, after receiving your last PM, it seems as though you successfully reset the OBi via ***8 (thanks QBZ). Now, you have a clean, blank slate to work with.
I would first press ***6 to make sure that you have the latest firmware, before proceeding. So if possible, please pickup the telephone connected to the OBi and then press ***6 to make sure that there are no new updates available.
Then, attempt once again to set up GV on SP1 using the full Google Email Address for the username and your Google Password for the password.
pc44
ok wish me luck
Here's wishing you lots of luck !!!!! :)
it says backing off
Okay, well at least we are on SP1 now... so that's definitely progress.
Usually, the backing off issue has to do with an incorrect password or username, but since you have already double-checked this, we'll move on.
I think I mentioned pressing ***6 to make sure you are on the latest firmware. Please let me know if you were able to update to the latest firmware.
The OBi FAQ recommends this as one possibility for the "Backing Off" message:
"You have not yet made a call with Gmail's Call Phone feature ..." I would suggest logging into the Google Voice webpage and placing one test call from within that interface.
pc44
I did the test call and it rang but I had no phone connected so I dont know.
also yes I did call for updates, none
I'm not sure about my emails, I think I used 2 somewheres.
exactly how and where do I check these again?
I get forum message to yahoo and messages from you on gmail!
must be my problem!
Thanks for the update. Glad the firmware is up to date. The test call may have helped as well.
Obihai also recommends the following: "Also, remember to check the Forwards to: Google Chat option in your Google Voice Settings Phones Tab (https://www.google.com/voice?pli=1#phones)."
When you log into your Google Voice account (https://www.google.com/voice), this is the username and password that we want to be using in the OBi.
pc44
google voice is my gmail acct.
and gmail password
I used yahoo acct and password in obitalk!
google chat is gmail address
is there any way you can do this for me?
Okay, as QBZappy suggested, send me a PM with your details, and we'll give that a try.
pc44
You should be all set now. Your SP1 Google Voice status is now Connected.
Please place a test call, and then ask someone to call you on your Google number. Let us know if you are successful.
Thanks,
pc44
I am bawling! it works!!
I need to make you a fruitcake! LOL
I hate fruitcake! :) (Thanks a lot QBZappy)
On a serious note, thanks for the update. It's great to hear of your success!
Don't forget to change your OBiTalk login credentials (password) once you are satisfied with the OBi setup. That way, only you will be able to log in to it in the future.
Thanks,
pc44
ok about password, I will change it.
Kidding about the fruitcake, I can't bake.
I could send Twinkies? LOL
Seriously, I can not thank you enough.

Phew!!! Glad to hear that. :)
Thanks also to QBZappy for his input and suggestion. When he's not being a nuisance (or a fruitcake in this case), he can actually be quite helpful. :D
No!!!! it rang my trac phone and my trac rang it back, but it goes to voicemail! both phones!!! is this easy to fix? please?
I didnt change my PW yet.
What setup are you looking to have here? Do you want to be able to call your GV phone from your Tracfone?
Most people want to be able to access their voicemail when dialing their Google Number.
pc44
EDIT: Looks like things are now working properly.
