Title: Setting outgoing Caller ID Name
Post by: Frustrated on September 01, 2012, 02:22:44 PM
How do I set the outgoing Caller ID Name?

I am using Callcentric with a Obi110. I have it working. I can make calls, but only the phone number shows up for called id. I found "Voice Services > SP1 Service > Calling Features > CallerIDName" in the device configuration but apparently I am not supposed to use that if I use ObiTalk. Do I misunderstand?

On outbound calls, your voip provider, CallCentric, controls the sending of the caller id associated with your account.  Their FAQ says they do not support sending outbound CNAM (caller ID With Name):

Thank you, that answers the question. I apologize for not finding that on my own. I found many comments indicating that most providers (except Google) support caller id and it did not occur to me that we must be more specific than that.

I assume then that the obitalk.com pages would show a box for caller id name if it was supported. If so then it would help if it was shown, but disabled, when it is not supported; that would make it easier for customers to understand.

So now I need to find a provider that does support outgoing caller id name. Hopefully I can find the relevant documentation for each provider now that I know what to look for.

Frustrated,

I can confirm that voipms supports it. In fact you can even control the CNAM being displayed.
