Title: OBi 110 Connection Problem
Post by: makitso on June 19, 2013, 05:30:43 am
I have two phone systems in my home, an Ooma for my home number and an OBi110 for my office phone that I only make outbound calls on.

I do a lot of conference calls to my work conference number.  My problem is that I need to key in a conference pass code on each call and the reliability of that is the issue.

For example, the pass code for a call may be 5151234, but after keying it in the conference system only receives 5155234.   Although the correct number appears on my two line AT&T desk phone it is not received correctly by the conference system.

This is a constant problem with the OBi line.  However, if I use the other line on my AT&T desk phone for the Ooma the problem never happens.

Is there a local setting I can change to address this problem?

Thanks in advance,

Hardware Version 3.4
Software Version 1.3.0 (Build: 2774)

Try holding each key press longer and with a short pause between each press.

Search the forum for 'using DTMF codes'.

Just ideas, with no confidence in any being the solution:

If the system received 5155123 I might wonder if the DTMF tones were sent too long.  That is to say that the 5 was heard as 2 tones, and the system was only looking for the first 7 digits and therefore ignored the 4.

Is it ever the case that the OBi does not appear to receive the number from your desk phone correctly? If so, I might consider settings in the desk phone.

I see that the OBi110 has a DTMFPlaybackLevel

The energy level of DTMF signal transmitted on PSTN line port in dBm (-90 to 3) with a default of -5. I wonder if increasing to -2 or decreasing to -7 would help.

Another thing that comes to mind is that after the number has dialed but before the time where the code is accepted, press # to have the OBi just pass the audio from the phone through unchanged. This one seems simplest to try.

Maybe try the call via your SIP or GV provider until you get this sorted out.

Edit: I see the OBi110 Physical Interfaces -> Line Port has some dialing timing settings.

On the ITSP Profile for your SPx service there is a setting X_UseFixedDurationFRC2833DTMF where the default is unchecked.  I would certainly try checking that setting.   On the ITSP Profile there is also a setting DTMFMethod where the default is Auto.  There are 3 other settings you can try (RFC2833, SipInfo, Inband, Auto).  I would try RFC2833, SipInfo, and Inband in that order to see if it solves the problem.  RFC2833 is usually the best choice.

A DTMF test number you can try:
1 415 354 7007
also the following number after you enter a test message which they echo back, they let you enter multiple digits and give you a readout of what you entered:
DTMF Test
1-408-647-4636

Thanks guys, I appreciate the advice.

Jackson:  I have tried various strategies with key, pause, etc and none seem to make any difference.
hwittenb:  Both DTMF test numbers did not generate any errors :-(
Shale:  Thanks, will experiment with DTMF settings
