Title: Call any OBi for FREE Right from Your WebRTC Capable Browser !! How ?
Post by: YASH on November 15, 2014, 09:11:54 PM
I received a following e-mail from OBI. - see bottom.

My question is,...

I am in the USA now.
I have OBi200 and also OBI202  lines,..  ( total 4 diff. phone nos. )
but let say,.. If i go to  a diff. nation, and from there,..

I go to the web site of obitalk.com  ( assume,.. I have latest PC with  mic and headphone,.. etc, and latest firefox/ Google Chrome  browsers..etc )   and try to call thro' web,.. to my existing OBI phone no in USA, can I do that, free of charge?

How?

How do I set up a Voice Gateway

Can someone give me more idea and details about it ?

I had tried calling myself,.. but it shows the error,.." No gateway configured " - from my own home,... siting next to my phone, via obitalk.com , it did not ring my phone.

How do I configure ?

Help, please.

Obihai have integrated WebRTC, the latest Internet communications technology, into OBiTALK.com to let you make calls to any OBi number. You can even set up a Voice Gateway for your OBiTALK softphone and connect calls THRU your OBi to regular numbers. This functionality requires you to have the latest Chrome or Firefox browser. With WebRTC and OBiTALK, you can call for free, from anywhere in the world, by simply by logging into your OBiTALK account. To start your call, just click the 'Call OBi' at the top of the web page. That's it!

From the OBiTalk dashboard click on the OBiON softphone.
Do you have anything selected for OBi Voice Gateway?
If not, select one of your OBi's from the drop down menu and click save.

The OBi Call Button did not work for me until I upgraded to firmware build 4477.

The WebRTC button can be used to call any OBi number.  (Edit: except OBi100 & OBi110 devices - also, the device you are calling needs a November 2014 or later software release)
This feature is only supported in the latest versions of Chrome, Firefox and Opera browsers.

To test this out do the following:

You should now be able to receive calls on your phone via the "Call OBi" button.

Despite the "any Obi" claim I get a "Sorry OBb100 and OBi110 models are not supported" response.

Calling my OBi1032 does now work; maybe this is because it has had a firmware upgrade since the last time I tried it.

 ^^

Thank you all folks for your help.

Here is what I found.

(I  have tried calling from my own home  to myself  -  from the logged in website to my phones and have not started calling from outside yet - I still need to experiment that  )

* I have latest Firefox Mozzilaa  browser.

*  I  have OBI 200 and OBI 202 – with total 4 diff. line. ( OBI 202 has two diff. lines )

* I went to my dashboard and there was an orange triangle advising me to upgrade to the latest software and it took 3-5 min to upgrade and that orange triangle is gone, so It has got current upgraded software now.

* I went to the dashboard  and pressed that green color phone icon,..
*  I do not have soft phone,.. so in the "speed dial" pull down,..
I selected my OBI202's lines.

  * I made more than 50-100 experiments and concluded these things.

1.

Though, the note says,..  you can dial the OBI phone,... but in fact, you can dial to any US number phones, ( non-OBI lines ) .. means,.. even if  you are not dialing to the OBI phone,.. that also works, as it is  dialing using your OBI  US number, ( via PC and mic-headphones )  from which the phone is dialed.

2.

And more importantly, this service is annoying, disgusting, not trustworthy and worked very randomly and in a totally strange way.    Which pattern or harmony it follows, I still could not find/figure it out,.

Means,.... You try 5-7 times and hardly one times it will join and will ring,... 5-6 times it won't and you again open-close yr browser,.. refresh page,. Again try 5-7 times,... may hardly one time it will work,... rest the phone is not ringing !

And, this is the sorry-fact disgusting science of it,...... even after I attempting  100+ times rebooting, refreshing  my page, re login,. Refreshing the dashboard page,. Closing the page reopening,.. delete cookies, ..... And all other way,.. but still this  strange  and disgusting science of which harmony it's following or what it is violating here,.... I still could not find any remedy,.... or why it is doing like this,.. and on that basis,. I may not consider as totally trust-worthy.

Out of 6-7 attempts  by closing and refreshing the dashboard, page
and all such it works hardly 1 out of 7 attempts,. And hence can not treat is as any reliable or trustworthy,.. to let my relatives living in other nation, to let them be given  my login passwords  and let them to call me, on my OBI number, here in the US.

Out of 6 attempts 5 times it just does not work, and that's the fact,
unless you explain me what I am missing of here  !!  Not satisfied!

Web RTC relies heavily on the browser.  Problems with the browser itself could be your issue.  I am currently having no problems in Firefox or Chrome.  I have also used this feature on an Android smartphone via the Chrome browser with no problems.  The inability to call could also be related to your router, your internet provider, and hardware issues on your computer.  You don't need to give out your account details to your friends or family so they can call you.  They only need your "OBi Number".  It should start with a 5 or 6 depending on your model.  I believe all 2xx series start with a 5.  The number will be 9 digits long.  You can find it in the portal after you log in.  They can then go to http://www.obitalk.com/obinet/ and click the "Call Obi" link at the top of the page.  If they don't have an account they will be asked to enter a captcha code.  They will also need to enter your OBi Number.  Then they will need to give the browser permission to use the microphone.  You will then receive a call.  If the person calling does not have an Obitalk account you will see 000000000 as the caller ID for the incoming call.

^^^^My browser server and all is fine,..... as I have no other problems anywhere.

If you do not give them, yrs e-mail and pass to login,....
The dialing does not work,
As  it says "no gateway is configured".

Also sometimes the phone rings well,... and sometimes,..
you need to open the dialpad and press 1 there
and struggle doing it 3-4 times,. And then the phone rings.
Sometimes   even the OBI tape speaks and the person will have to select "1" either by the dialpad there, or on your computer keyboard.

Also I have OBI202 which has two phone nos,.
so  in the box, sometimes,..the entered phone no. makes confusion and hence it does not ring.

But when you give them the login data,... they can simply choose the
speed dial,...and under pulldown menu.,... my account and then it shows,.

2*3025239632   ( just fake no. )

And that's how it rings,..

Even you simply keep it as  2*  and then press "call" then also it rings,....

But  it needs 3-4 attempts, as dunn'o why but sometimes it rings sometimes it does not.

OBI202 rings both the phones nos,.. if you dial by that 9 digit of OBI's ID no.

Your obi only has one obi number.  Even the 202 only has one.  I personally have a 202.  I am not talking about a phone number.  The obi number is only 9 digits long and it should start with the digit 5.  The reason people calling you have to press 1 after they call you is because you gave them your password and the obi thinks you are calling from your own number.  Your number is in your "circle of trust".  If they call you without logging in to your account they will not need to press 1 to connect the call. They do not need an account to call you! They do not need to log in to call you!  They only need your obi number that starts with a 5.  Do not give them a phone number it won't work. Log in click on your obi202 and the obi number will be listed clearly.  If you only want 1 phone to ring that can be changed in the obitalk settings on your obi202.

I don't say it applies to every OBi but my 110 and 1032 each have its 9 digit OBi number clearly displayed on a label on the underside.

You are correct and I can't say it applies to every Obi either but every one I have seen including the Obi202.

OBI202 rings both the phones nos,.. if you dial by that 9 digit of OBI's ID no.

I didn't have a chance to explain in detail how to fix this earlier so here is a better explanation.  When the Obi number "9 digit of OBI's ID no" is called both ports on the Obi202 ring by default.  If you only want 1 port(one phone) to ring you have to set which one.

Log in to the Obitalk portal
Select you Obi 202
Click Obi expert configuration at the bottom of the page.
Click "OK" on the pop up.
Click "enter Obi expert".
On the left click "Voice Service"
In the sub menu click "Obitalk service"
In the "InboundCallRoute" you will see something like {(290000000)>(xx.):SP1},{(290000000):aa},{ph,ph2}
Now change the "InboundCallRoute"  by removing ph, or ,ph2 depending on which port/ phone you want to ring.
Assuming you want to ring phone 1 it will look something like this after you remove ,ph2.
{(290000000)>(xx.):SP1},{(290000000):aa},{ph}

If you don't want to use the Auto Attendant features at all you can erase everything in the "InboundCallRoute" accept for ph or ph2.  That would mean to ring phone 1 the only thing in that field would be ph.

Once finished click submit at the bottom of the page.  Allow the Obi to reboot and test your new configuration.  If you have any issue come back here and we will help.

I hope this helps!  :)

^^

Thank you gigcass and it was sure a precious help. Thanks again.

Yeess I agree,..... and I and we all know the 9 digit Ids of our pieces.  So, no confusion with that, at all.

In fact, if both  the phones are ringing,... it does not bother me,... as I can receive/reply on any of the phone,.. so that's rather an advantage,..... and I know immediately, when my brother would call me from India, as soon as both the phones ring and I can know it from far, without even coming to the phone and reading the dialpad,... So, No problem.

[ But still in a general way otherwise,.. my both diff phone nos are alreday set up for two diff. lines,.. so they ring individually, when a particular line is  contacted.  And, that's what I had initially wanted. So, no problem. ]

I still did not try calling my obi from outside via web browser yet,.. but when I tried to calling me the way you advised, from my home, via the web browser, calling myself,....
It shows so much disturbance of noises and  sounds like a train is coming,...... etc. Does it always makes such noises,.. let say if someone is calling you from  a very far nation, via web browser ?  How clear the voice quality remains both the ways,... !

Just wondered.  any opinions.

[ BTW, will have to admit,.. few members / MODs on this forum remain extremely cooperative, knowledgeful and very good at assisting all the way ! Kudos to the entire team n' members ]

For me the call is clear.  When someone calls from a computer you will typically hear more background noise then you would hear with a handset because the microphone in the computer is very sensitive.  Careful adjustment of the microphone on the computer can clear a lot of that up.  Sound quality can also be increased with a headset/microphone attached to the computer.  In any case I have never experienced the level of distortion that you describe.

Is this because the hardware in these devices isn't capable of supporting WebRTC (I know it's more primitive than that in the OBi2xx devices), or because there isn't yet a firmware update for OBi1xx that would allow it?

The OBi100 and OBi110 are based on a more basic platform than the other OBi models.  So (for now at least) WebRTC isn't supportable on these devices.

It used to be supported on the OBi1XX. What changed? I note some not so subtle marketing coercion effort to get users on board with the 4477 firmware which incorporates the Google two-step verification process. I hope this is not a case of planned obsolescence. My 110 units are working fine as they are, pre 4477.

@YASH

If the "Call OBi" button is not working for you, there are alternate ways of making browser or softphone based  calling using far the away obi. Here is one simple way you can use GTalk to make calls to your obi reliably. This gives callers the ability to make other calls using the voip services of the far away OBi. In other words it has all of the abilities of the OBI "Call button" without the limitations. Note that I have not tested this recently.

So what is unique about the OBion app vs using the Google Talk client?
http://www.obitalk.com/forum/index.php?topic=3573.0
http://www.obitalk.com/forum/index.php?topic=3550.msg23594#msg23594

This other method will require much more effort on your part as it needs you to preconfigure a portable app and perhaps need to port forward in your router. Using a portable app such as phonerlite portable ( http://phonerlite.de/download_en.htm ), you can preconfigure your ip address or dns name into the app and let them download it to their computer.

In any case all these methods require some basic knowledge of the OBi inbound call rules in order to direct the call to your phone. For some background on what to consider in crafting inbound call rules, have a look at the link I provided above.

Sir :

I think,.. it's working after 1-2 trial and struggle this way and that way,... as I still did not try calling myself from outside,.. and probably I called over and over, perhaps when my phone was already in a answering mode of the previous attempt and such,....  But after 2-3 struggle attempts the button works.

The things you explained is very technical and I can  not get even 0.001 % of what is been said,.. so on  a layman pov,.. it's even more tedious anyway.

But, thanks for yr  advise and assisting.

It seems,  two diff. things are being confused here .

1.   Loging in, onto the obitalk website and making phone calls thro' that webpage  ( by mic/headsets ) using your device to call to other US phone numbers and even worldwide ( at a  a charge, to a non-obi number ), from your device .

2.   New feature which has just been added this month, about,......
Other of your world-wide friends, who does not have even the device and / or account and without even logging in, they can call you, to your device, via their Web browser for free.

I guess,..
the feature no. 1 was always there for  a long time,.. including the old models,.
And the  feature no. 2 is just added, this month,
and to new models only with that updated software installed, n' with the updated browsers of Mozilla, GC or Opera, and equipped PC with microphone /headsets/speakers/built-in mic ,.. etc.

The green CallOBi button has been there for months, maybe even as far back as 2013.

Edit:  Following the link in QBZappy's post below indicates the CallOBi (WebRTC) button has been there since June 2013.

The problem is,..

my relatives say,  by pressing that green phone icon button they see the following message, but NO  box to enter either the phone no. or the device ID number.

---------
This Call OBi button will allow you to call an OBi number directly from your web browser.*

Your call will ring the far-end phone(s) attached to the OBi device's PHONE port(s).

If you are logged-in to your OBiTALK account, and use the Call OBi button to call an OBi device set-up in the same OBiTALK account or a device whose Circle of Trust you belong to, the OBi Attendant will answer and you will be able to bridge your web call to a regular number using Option 2.

* For the Call OBi feature to work, the web browser must support WebRTC and the user must allow the use of their microphone / speaker for the call. Google's Chrome browser supports WebRTC. Only the OBi200, OBi202, OBi300 and OBi302 models may be called. The OBi device must have OBiTALK Service enabled.

Nonetheless,.. sorry to say, but the service is NOT reliable.

With the same and latest and greatest updated browser,.. sometimes,.. it rings,....
sometimes  it does not ring the real phone ( You only listen to the fake rings on your computer,..... but the real ring at the other end,... just does not ring )

I tried almost more than 100s of times.

-----

Right now,.. while I am writing this,..10.50PM EST, USA time,..

I tried dialing my device's ID no,.. almost 50+ times and not  a single time it rings my phones !
Again,. it's the same computer, same browser,
and also my device status, it's light, and dialtone of the phones,. etc is ON,..everything is fine and still it does not ring,..
My OBI202 has two phones,. and now it's not ringing,.. all of a sudden for some unknown reasons !

Sometimes it rings sometimes it does not,.. you need to make 5-10 attempts and hardly one time it rings the phone...

Same computer
Same ID number of the device
Same device, same browser and all the same parameters,..

Can someone explain me,... what is the science, that it rings one out of five times,... and otherwise not !

It works every time for me.  I don't think I have ever experienced a single failure with WebRTC.  It appears you have had issues with the Auto Attendant.  You could disable the Auto Attendant on incoming Obitalk calls.  Other then that I don't know what to try.

To disable the Auto Attendant:
Log in to the Obitalk portal
Select your Obi 202
Click Obi expert configuration at the bottom of the page.
Click "OK" on the pop up.
Click "enter Obi expert".
On the left click "Voice Service"
In the sub menu click "Obitalk service"
In the "InboundCallRoute" you will see something like {(290000000)>(xx.):SP1},{(290000000):aa},{ph,ph2}
Now change the "InboundCallRoute"  to ph,ph2
Once finished click submit at the bottom of the page.  Allow the Obi to reboot and test your new configuration.  Now the Auto Attendant will not pick up when a call comes in Via the Obitalk network. The caller will not need to press 1 to connect.

Thx for your jelp.

I tried doing that,..

My "InboundCallRoute"  is like this:
{(290400758|510817313|510426852)>(xx.):SP1},{(290400758|510817313|510426852):aa},{ph,ph2}

Also I could not change anything as it does not allow to change/delete any of the above data.

^^^ In fact,.. later I could change it. By removing a tic in a "next to" box.

I am also having a red color astonishment/exclamation symbol mark, next to that box which showed " Inboundcallroutine "

also next to that,
there was a ticmark on "obitalk settings."
When I took that ticmark off,  it automatically changed  the box to "ph.ph2"

And, after that, I  submitted it,.. rebooted my computer, delete cookies, fresh opened the dashboard again
and made sure that,.. now it shows up as ph,ph2,... etc. It does.

But still, it brings that voice message of giving options of press 1 / 2 / 3 on dialpad. So even after changing that, nothing has changed.

Also,. I have Mozzila Firefox and Google Chrome both.
This discontinuity of  phone ringing / not ringing,... happens in both.

I just tried couple of times,...
It still brings that dialpad pressing of options as usual,..

In google chrome,  while not logging in to obitalk,. and just by entering the "matching code" and then in the box the Device ID no. and allowing for the use of mic and speakers,...

The first two fake rings, I listen instantly ( your own rings-sounds - not the real ring sounds of the phone at the other hand )  BUT then the real phones (  I have two diff. lines and numbers for OBI202 ) never rings,...

unless you try couple of times,... then again loggin in,.
and once having that "press 1" voice message again, and then pressing 1,...

So, you need to struggle 4-5 times.

But, I doubt that if given simply the ID no of device to someone in other nation,
and if he tries,.. it will ring/not ring sometimes Yess and No in this case,. !

Unless,.. you also give him yr login data and tell him to struggle 4-5 times logging in and out, untill you hear the voice message,...
and then pressing 1 on dial pad,.. etc

But still, it brings that voice message of giving options of press 1 / 2 / 3 on dialpad.

I just tried couple of times,...
It still brings that dialpad pressing of options as usual,..

Try rebooting the Obi202 and see if the voice goes away.

EDIT:  The easy way to reboot.  From a phone connected to the Obi press *** then press 9 then press 1 to confirm.

Sir,..
First of all,.. thanks for your extreme cooperation and efforts,
with lots of tolerance,........ and without losing any patience, with me.  Thank you, again.

BTW,.....I did exactly, like you said,....  ( ***9,1 on both the phones ) and  Still that obi voice message was coming,..

I also turned the power plug OFF of the obi device, rebooted device,. and still the OBI voice message –  ( " of pressing 1/2/3 options " )  was coming, as it is !

Finally, I found the  remedy,... I went back to the "InboundCallRoute" area to check the status ph,ph2  which was also fine,..
but this time,.. I took off the tic mark  from that first column of the small square box there ( last time when I removed that tic from the second column, it had jumped to the first column to bring that ph,ph2 automatically.
[ As it was not letting me, repair those typings manually ]

So,  ( now no tic marks in any columns in front of "InboundCallRoute", has taken care of that annoying  OBI voice messages with its options.

BUT,
The phone not ringing disorder (struggling 4-5 times
and then and then once only it rings the phone
- annoyance is as it is  !
( No matter,... I use Google chrome or  Firefox  )

When it rings the phone,  via Google chrome, phone shows,..number as
29-040-0758

When it rings the phone,  via  Firefox, phone shows,..number as
00-000-0000

If I am logged ON, I don't need to enter the matching code, [ it never asks ]
If I am not logged ON, I need to enter the code.

But, regardtheless,...

a)   whether I use firefox or Google chrome,..

b)     whether  I am logged ON or OFF

c)   whether I dial  by

1) entering device ID number ( 500xxxyyy ) or,..

2) In speed dialing, selecting my device,.... and it brings  2*  in the display area of the phone number  or,...

3) entering 2*1302XXXYYYY  [ 302  is my area code,..XXXYYYY is one of my OBI202's phone number allotted ]

it still does not always ring,..
and many  a times,  I listen to the first initial two fake rings,.. and then green letters shows "Ringing..."
and the phone never rings, even if I waited for another 10 minutes.

You should NEVER be entering 2*1302XXXYYYY to call your own Obi.  If someone else is trying to call your Obi they should NEVER be using 2*1302XXXYYYY either.   Let me explain what happens when you do that.  2* will call your Obi via webRTC.  2*1302XXXYYYY will create an incoming call to your Obi but the call will be diverted and the Obi will attempt a second outgoing call to 1302XXXYYYY using the service that is set under the Auto Attendants PrimaryLine.  That can cause a whole host of issues and unpredictable behavior.  The call may go through some of the time(with a delay)  other times you could end up with timeouts, voice mail, or a busy tone.

The 2 correct ways to connect to your Obi via WebRTC are 2* from your own account or using the device ID number ( 500xxxyyy ) when not logged in to your account.  Any other method will cause unpredictable results with too many variable to ever hope to troubleshoot.

Thanks for letting me know that,...

also I noticed that,
Never give away your device ID
to any non-trustworthy persons, or on any unknown members in forums,... etc.

Coz, if someone starts annoying you,
you have no idea even  who is calling you, as  your phone display does not know,.. from where the web phone is coming and  you will be really annoyed and irritated by strangers. Right ?
Title: Re: Call any OBi for FREE Right from Your WebRTC Capable Browser !! How ?

That is true.  I wouldn't post my Obi device number just like I wouldn't post a phone number.  To reduce the possibility of spam calls the WebRTC form makes users enter a captcha code before they make a call if they are not logged in.  It's possible to block calls from people without an account if it were to ever become an issue.  You could even set the Obi to only take calls from specific numbers or device ID's if you wanted to.

Well,. I think, I will give up now. Thanks all, for yrs dearest assistance

Somehow, it sure takes me to login, log off and open the Web browsers 1-2 times and struggle a bit, till I hear the ring from the actual phone.

Probably, because I am still using WIN XP (service pack 3) ?  I don't know.

But it works, after little attempts.
I am to give this procedure and method to my relatives in India to let them call me at convenience
and My intent is, to make their life as easy as possible, or they will   give it up,.. saying " it's just too much complicated and annoyance-full, hence not worth it, for saving  some money ".

Nonetheless, thank you all guys, for the extreme  help and cooperation.

They don't. Thx anyway.

I tried experimenting other 100 times.

The ring is not regular and systematic you need to struggle 3-5 times, minimum.

My relatives tried calling me from India,  ( via, obitalk.com to my device ID ) and phones/rings were establishing quickly, every time. However, the voice quality was not that good, ( super-sharp ) his voice was sounding muffled,...  ( he was using good qlty of headphones/mic, having very expensive latest DELL laptop ) He is using Mozzilla-Firefox.

And hence I wonder, ... How come, the old magic jack ( not PLUS ) ( when he was using 3 yrs ago,. )  was also using the same PC's soundcard and still the voice quality was good ( really sharp ) and clear
and here it was not !  What could be the reason ?

( He holds a most latest and greatest DELL laptop computer - was bought for 1350+ usd, 2 yrs ago )

Right now, my set up with OBI202 is ,
That, it rings both of my phone numbers simultaneously, connected to the OBI202
and hence both the, two diff. numbers ring together.

Would it be a cause for a little poor sound quality  ( just wondered ) for the sound coming from there ? Any advice, pl? Thx

It doesn't really matter whether 1 line rings or 2.  When you pick up the call is only being connected to 1 of those lines.  The other line gives up and waits for the next call.  The magic jack would have been using a different microphone and AFAIK Magic Jacks (even the old ones) have internal sound processing that does not utilize the sound card on the host computer.  The old ones did the heavy lifting via software and the Magic Jack dongle acted like a second separate sound card.

Even with a good microphone it must be adjusted correctly in the software.  Do you sound muffled to your relative?

Ok.
Perhaps , previously I thought, the line  must be ditributed into two splits
and hence the voice qlty, might have been sufferring !   ( I was wrong, as per you now. )

As per him,..
My voice heard there was ok, only his voice to me, was kinda muffled and not that clear pronounciated,..
perhaps the sound was via computer's sound card...( as if, many people use skype service to call internationally, using mic and headphones via PC )

He was previously / so far  calling  to my both OBI numbers ( my OBI202 piece in USA ) via  a  TK6000 piece ( older version of the Nettalk piece )  there, from India,  ( Phone to Phone ( no mic or speakers ), though via Laptop, as the piece there, then did not require separate power source,  ( PC serves as internet and power source both ) otherwise the piece would needed all three connections-  ( wire to Power-source,  wire to Phone,  wire to ethernet/modem for internet ) -  ( Just like any latest nettalk piece or 'Magic jack plus' piece )

Your relatives should create their own accounts to use with the Obion app.  They do not need an Obi to create an account.  They could use the link below or just search for Obion in the app store/itunes.

1.
You said, they do not need to have OBI piece. Now, if  he has an i-phone in a diff. country and I own a OBI piece here in USA,  how, and which number to him,.. I will be dilaing him, when I am calling him on his i-phone? ( In different nations, they have diff. phone number formats  and total digits,. etc. )

2.
What is the diference between the PC application link, that you just provided here,.. and  that green color of "call obi" phone icon,.. which is already there, on  www.obitalk.com website.
Are they both talk similar for them, to call me in USA on my OBI ?  Which is more advantageous and latest?

His country of origin does not matter.  Calls between an Obi and the Obion app do not use phone numbers.  If you try to dial his regular Iphone phone number you will receive an error or pay for a long distance call. When he signs up for an account he will receive a "my Obitalk number" number.  It is similar to your device Id number and it will be 9 digits.  It looks like a phone number and it starts with a 2.  To call him without incurring charges you would dial **9 then dial his 9 digit "Obitalk number".  This will only work if he has the Obion app installed AND running AND signed in to his own Obitalk account.  If he turns it off you will receive an error message.

One is actual software that runs on a PC(Windows only) it requires more setup but it can also receive calls.  The other "green color of call obi phone icon" is a newer system for making calls in a web browser but it can't receive a call.

Did you mean, that,.... the time I am calling him,..
he should  be logged on to his  Obitalk account, and does this mean that,.... I should be  contacting him in advance ( by some other means  )  that  now I will be calling you, so,   get logged in and ready?  Or,... once the obi icon he gets established on his smartphone,

I meant the app that he downloads must be running and logged in.  He does not need to be logged in to the web portal.

If he has a scanner app on his phone then scanning that qr code will take him to the download page.

Could you pl. advise me step by step, so that ( I can advise him,.. ) and he can download the needed software
( please provide the "direct realted link, to download" for his above device )
and he can have an icon on his Cell phone with 9 Digits ID number,
and then we both can talk each other, using that 9 digit numbers of each other.

I have got my OBI202 piece, with my 9 digits of ID ready
and the piece is connected with my phones, here in the USA.

Can I make an OBITALK account for him, on his behalf,
and then giving him   the   screen name and password, to make his life easier ?

Thank you.

Should I understand that,.. he should open the above page with his   Samsung S3 Galaxy, and press the install button there and it will install the needed software
and will create an icon on his desktop of his Cell,
and then he can login with the screen and password provided ( by me, for his new separate account  ) to him, and it will take care of all ?

Am I right, in my thinking ?

2.
Will We both  have to add **9  in front of the 9 digits ID number of ours, when calling to each other ?

3.
As you suggested, I have already opened a new obi account for him ( User ID : "mdmodi100" ), but where is his 9 digit ID number, alooted for him ?  I see it, nowhere.

4.
What is that,  Google white bag icon error? Will one have to buy something for that white bag, before installing the needed application ?

1) Yes that will install the correct software.

2) With default settings you will need to use **9

3) He can find it in the Obi app on his Android device after logging in. Click the "obitalk" tab and then look at the top for "My Obitalk no".  Alternatively log in on the web and go to http://www.obitalk.com/obinet/pg/obhdev the number likely starts with 290.  Option3:  Have him call you.  It should show up in your call history.

4) That is a Google Play issue.  I don't have experience with that issue.  I recommend a search on the subject.

Thank you,.. and  YESS,...I did establish the lines
like you mentioned above, with my relatives in India, I remain in  DE, USA. ( He got Samsung S5 in India )

They called me twice and somehow the phone gets disconnected soon after 15 sec. of talk.  Dunno why?

When I tried calling his number  **9 290 abc xyz ( for security, I used abc xyz ) 3-4 times,...
it rings,...... but the message speaks that the providing service is rejecting your phone,  error 404.
No conversation did establish from my end. What does this mean?

So,.. pl. advice us, how to establish a good permanent  connection,
also on  a permanent basis, ( by always logging in, certain way )  without any such interferences.

Thank you Sir.    Yr help here, remains priceless.

I wouldn't use the Obion app for Android.
It hasn't been upgraded since 2011.
Are you willing to try a different method?
You would have to install a softphone on your Android or iPhone and define a trunk on your OBi2xx.
Do you have a smartphone, so you can test this by yourself?
If yes to the above, start by getting 2 free Sip2Sip accounts here:
https://mdns.sipthor.net/register_sip_account.phtml

Select all numeric UserIDs, so you can dial it from a keypad.
Like 12345678@sip2sip.info
One account will be for your OBi and the 2nd for the smartphone.
When you have your accounts, post back.

i am dialing  to a cell in India ( from USA ) via **9 and it's 9 digit ID code of the other end,...

the errror is  coming,..---

Was rejected by the provider - reason 404

That error suggest to me that the Obion app may not have been running on his phone at the time you made the call.  The recommendation by azrobert might be best at this point.  I don't think Obihai is going to update the Obion app anytime soon.

In fact, all steps were executed, just like you had mentioned in your previous posts, here.

I tried calling 6-8 times, and it was coming up, with the same error.

And,  he could even called me, very first time ( from his Samsung S5 ) and I could talk for 1-2 sentences  and then suddenly it disconnected and thereafter the voice went on being muted,.. n' all disorders,..etc.,  for all later attempts from his side and it did not work out.

if so why don't you send him an Obi?

^^ I had also done last time for him, (  for making an account for him, if you had read few posts here )  as he is an olderly person and not much computer literate, not knows what is OBI and what I have here as a device,.... or no nothing.
More he finds it bother-some n' complicated, he may quit and won't go for it.

I am just trying to make his life easier, and once it's all set and established,.. it will work forever.

----

He and me call each other once in  a month hardly, and hence even by sending an OBI,  ( in fact, I have two OBI200 new pieces  recently bought )hence he would not prefer to do wiring by finding an extra Ethernet connection port in his router/modem ( he may have it or not )  and placing one extra phone on the table just for me, for calling hardly once in  a month,  or  getting that phone as well as the piece been plugged to the electricity  (24/7) by using the pin voltage converter extensions..etc, also  as you know in the East, the rooms and places are crowded, congested and electric points are  8 feet up the floor  and only at  one place in a room, so  he would never get that wire hanging for the power for that piece and the phone, just for me  who is not  even a frequent caller,..... etc.   So, these are the problems there,.. ! I guess, if you had lived there, you'd understood quickly. :)

Do you understand installing the Phonerlite softphone on your PC?
Can you start there?
Click on the link I provided in my last post.
You PC will ask for permission to install the softphone.

I wrote the following before I saw your last post:
I believe the person in India has a Laptop. Maybe it would be easier for him to install the Phonerlite softphone on the Laptop. You can also follow the his setup on your PC.

Sir, I want to make sure that this will not wipe out / interfere with my current google voice account and its set up, in any case,
as it's working totally fine.
[ BTW, are we talking about the setup which has nothing  to do with obi device ?,.. like any third party software?  ]

The guy in India has laptop/PC and Samsung S5 and his grandson who occasionally can   help him for any intelli. Work. My intent is to make his life and instructions-work as simpler as I can, or he would give up.

I thought, we are talking about making an icon on his Samsung
so that he and me can talk free of charge, and without any mic / speaker phone,.. etc

Ok,. anyway,....I just downloaded the software  ( red circular phone symbol – PhonerLite ) and by opening it, in a bottom line it shows a green circle with   my e-mail of sip2sip, showing as registered.

What next ?  Pl.

The red exclamation mark means the value is not the default.

I said:
QuoteNow click on Service Providers then click on SP4 Service

I meant to say:
Now click on Voice Services then click on SP4 Service

You got SP4 registered to Sip2Sip, so you must have found the correct place to add the settings. Correct?

Both the OBi and Phonerlite are registered to Sip2Sip.
This is good.

When dialing from the OBi, you are calling the Phonerlite app.
Dial **4 followed by the number used as UserName in the Phonerlite setup.
The Phonerlite app should start ringing.
You answer the call by clicking on the green phone icon.
To end the call click on the red phone icon.

When dialing from the Phonerlite, you are calling the phone attached to the OBi.
Dial the number used as AuthUserName in the SP4 setup then click the green phone icon.
The OBi phone should start ringing.

The 404 error is not good.
This is a Not Found error, so Sip2Sip could not find the account number you dialed.

You said:
QuoteBy dialing on phonerlite, it opens a dialogue box showing application error and  then quickly  closes  the "phoner lite" main  dialogue box and everything.

This is not good. This is probably why you are getting the 404 error.
Start the Phonerlite app again.
At the bottom of the Phonerlite window, is the circle solid green and does it say Registered?
Please click on the Logbook tab.
Does it show any error message?

What Windows operating system do you have on your PC?

First I thank you for bearing with me, so patiently.

The red exclamation mark means the value is not the default.

I think, I did not put the tic marks back at any places, where it should be,
and also after "submit" button being pressed, I instantly got the message on top of page, and it did not hit thro the piece and taking time with going thro' red lights or any such,.....
So, my guess is, nthg had been established any properly.

I said:

Ok, that's what I did

You got SP4 registered to Sip2Sip, so you must have found the correct place to add the settings. Correct?

I doubt, nthg has been established properly, yet.

Both the OBi and Phonerlite are registered to Sip2Sip.
This is good.

But with errors and not properly, that's what I think

When dialing from the OBi, you are calling the Phonerlite app.
Dial **4 followed by the number used as UserName in the Phonerlite setup.
The Phonerlite app should start ringing.

It does not ring, but speaks the same error.

You answer the call by clicking on the green phone icon.
To end the call click on the red phone icon.

When dialing from the Phonerlite, you are calling the phone attached to the OBi.
Dial the number used as AuthUserName in the SP4 setup then click the green phone icon.

Yes it does.

What Windows operating system do you have on your PC?

Windows XP with SP3  and latest Mozilla  Firefox 37.0 updated version
and runs all good, opens all pages/photos/videos/ and anything n' everything without any old browser issues.

In OBi Expert navigate to the settings you tried to change.
The default value will be displayed for the setting.
Unchecking the box under OBiTalk will reveal the change you made.

If everything looks good, check the SP4 Status again.
Again, is it registered?

Another thing you could do is check the OBi History.
To access Call History:
Log directly into the OBi using the local interface.
Key the IP address of the OBi into a Web Browser.
If you don't know the IP address dial ***1 from the OBi Phone.
An IVR message will tell you the IP address.
The IP address will be something like 192.168.1.100

Hit Enter
The UserID and default Password are both "admin".
Click Status on the left column.
Then click Call History.

The entry for the call should look like this:
"To SP4(12345678)"

I'm using a Windows 7 machine and an OBi110.
I also have an OBi200, but I don't want to mess with it.
I have 2 Sip2Sip accounts.
My accounts have alphabetic UserIDs.
You can use a keyboard with the Phonerlite softphone, so I can call an alphabetic UserID.
On the OBi110 I setup a speed dial to call the Phonerlite's alphabetic UserID.
Calls work both ways with my setup.

I do have an XP SP3 machine.
I will try Phonerlite on it tomorrow.

I don't think the dashboard displays the correct status when you manually configure a provider.

The SP4 Status on the System Status page is what counts.

It seems it's not worth of these much headache,...
OBI should have their Reps who can take control of your computer and can get/fix in just seconds,...  Months ago, a lady from OBI was on phone with me, and she had set up all features from her's end, for my OBi202 accounts, but now they do not answer any phone, unless they call you.
BTW, how many fellows here on chat board are   OBI's own Reps?    Can they call you if you request them?
Because,  even if my side is set,  to my relatives there in India  they can not spend this much time, pain and headaches,.. for installing and settings,...they rather spend  8 cents  a minute when needed to call once in    a month, but can never take these much headache of  installation and settings.  Not worth.

I assume the cellphone is running Android. Install a browser that supports WebRTC. Firefox does,  probably Chrome too.

Go to obitalk.com/obinet. No need to log in. Click the green 'Call OBi' button, complete the captcha, enter the 9 digit OBi* number and click 'Call'. If asked, give permission for the microphone to be used.

This only works for calling to an OBi.

Or install the Obion for Android app and give it a softphone number. It can then call or be called just like any other OBi.

(except OBi1xx devices.)

Thx sir for prompt response,...

My brother had tried this method earlier
for his laptop and PC from India,
but " gateway errors " and sound problems... and it was not working out.

My question is,
Is there any solid way of making  a permanent icon on his Cell's desktop that we both can call each other using IDs of OBI accounts??

^^ My relative tried calling me, this way.
[ from India's cell to my obi device's phone in USA, via obitalk.com ]

Phone conversation is held for 1-2 minute and after that, he ( cell guy ) hears some ring in his phone and phone gets disconnected.

He tried calling me, 10+ times and after every 2 minutes of conversation, line gets disconnected. Why ?

Any solution ?

My relative has successfully installed the OBION icon on his cell, in India.

When he  calls to my OBI device phone in USA ( ID to ID number ), it rings and then, whatever I speak from my OBI phone in USA, I am listening those words back, as an echo.

I can not hear him.  Whether he can or can not hear me, that I am not sure.

Why this thing happens?  Any explanation, please.  Thank you.

If he has a hands-free headset (wired or Bluetooth), ask him to use that instead of the phone's speaker and mic.
