Handset on 1062 sounds dead

Using a 1062 with GV and when I make or receive calls, the handset sounds dead.  I believe it's called sidetone?

Is it adjustable or is there a known issue for it? 

software version 5.00 (build 2619.1311)
hardware version 1.3

No, there isn't a setting to provide sidetone.
