Must use OBiPortal to set up GV??

Is there a way to set up / provision google voice acct. on a new Obi device (Obi200 in this particular case) with the direct device manager interface?

I have been using a 110 for years w/GV, never set up an ObiTalk account for it. I think all my notes/bookmarks on how to / tutorials are on a long gone laptop.

I tried mimicking pages from my 110 w/info. from another GV acct. but no joy. I could be missing something.

If it is possible to set up the new 200 w/o portal is there a decent how to either here of on another site?

I searched around on here and didn't find any guide, nor anything that said you MUST have obitalk acct. to set up GV so I am just not sure if I am attempting something that is no longer possible or just lacking in patience / search skills.

TIA

You need be on down level firmware to be able to define GV locally. I believe it's build 4350. The firmware build number is listed on the OBi System Status Page. Here is the download link:
http://fw.obihai.com/OBi202-3-0-1-4350.fw

You won't be able to install newer firmware to fix problems or use new features. If you are only using basic functions, you should be OK.

Here is the Setup:
Service Providers -> ITSP Profile X -> General -> SignalingProtocol:
Google Voice

Voice Services -> SPx Service -> AuthUserName: GV_Userid@gmail.com
Voice Services -> SPx Service -> AuthPassword: password

Thank you very much, really appreciate you sharing the wisdom w/a old user but really a newbie.

I'll need to set up localphone SIP also but I'm pretty sure that is still straight forward on the device interface.

I suppose eventually I may have to break down and set up a portal acct.

I think it is likely that GV will switch off the authorisation process used by that original method of configuring GV on OBi devices. The big question is "When?".

Interesting.

So using the old SW is using something other than the O Auth (did I get that name right?) security?

If the older security protocol (what is it called? not XMPP is it?) gets "turned off" then through the obitalk portal will be the only method remaining for setting up GV on Obi?

I guess I'll know when the old 110 stops working one day and a reboot doesn't get it up and running. It would be nice if there was an announcement that it has happened so a bunch of us aren't running around in circles trying to get it working w/ the device direct interface.

Another option is to use Bill Simon's GV gateway.
https://simonics.com/services/

You also get CNAM with the gateway.

A free option is GVSip, but there has been a lot of problems with this service.

You're unnecessarily making things harder, for no good reason.  Just use the OBiTALK portal to set up GV on your devices.  If you have some objection to remaining on the portal, you can disable it afterwards.

Set up:  http://www.obitalk.com/forum/index.php?topic=8560.msg56460#msg56460

Optionally, manage locally:  http://www.obitalk.com/forum/index.php?topic=8685.0

Thanks. I had heard / read about that but did not realize it was a way to do the complete setup, bypassing obiportal.

Thanks, that second link answers a lot for me.

You are probably right. I just like being able to directly set up / control the device. Probably some misplaced control freak in me.

I did not realize I could disable (or cancel??) my portal account after provisioning the Obi w/GV acct. credentials. I guess I just assumed it might "un-provision" the devices associated w/the portal acct..

Thanks all for the options, info. & links. Appreciate the hand holding.
