Hi,

As part of package deal I have internet, TV, and phone service through Time Warner, but have never taken advantage of the phone service.  I have my own router and modem.  Can I connect the OBI200 to my router and use the Time Warner phone service I am already paying for?  If so, any tips or tricks?

Thanks,
Skihikier

No, the the cable company's phone service only works using their own equipment.  You would need to lease their modem/telephone adapter to use their phone service.

So:  either use it, or don't pay for it and get an OBi instead.  The OBi would plug into your home router and use whatever other (not TWC) phone service you wish.

If you are paying for phone service, TW would give you a connection and phone number. My neighbor has voice service from the cable company. They supplied him with a phone connection that he could hook a phone to and gave him a local phone number.

With that type of connection you would have in and outbound calling to wherever they include.

With that said, if you wanted to be able to call internationally and not pay TW, or wanted to have a second number ring on the same phone, you could insert an Obi110 in between the phone and the cable company supplied phone port.

The 110 could be configured to intercept certain outbound calls and route them to a VOIP provider of your choice who has cheaper rates.

You can also have another phone number routed into the 100 to that same one phone you have. This might be a Googlevoice number or Voip number you have from a VOIP provider.

My sister used a 110 between her phone and the phone company. She had no long distance service with the phone company. I configured the 110 to pass local and 911 calls to the phone company, but any long distance calls went out through the Obi to Voip.Ms using them as her long distance carrier. Later she wanted a toll free number for her business. I added that at Voip.Ms and those calls come in to her Obi and her phone.

If she ever drops the local phone company, I just would configure all calls to go out through Voip.Ms.

you should be able to get a Time Warner cable modem with phone jack, at no cost, and use your own cable modem for internet only
(using a catv splitter obviously)
