It looks like we will be moving over to VoIP.ms by the end of the month. One of the features Vestalink had was if the caller is not in the phone book, one option was to send the call to voice mail. Am I missing something at VoIP.ms to do this? You can use "CallerID filtering" to do almost anything else. A short time ago someone posted why so many people like VoIP.ms. Just check out the customer portal and you'll see why. It's a piece of cake to configure almost anything.
Thanks

callhome,

I've played around with voip.ms "CallerID Filtering" and I haven't seen any clear way to Filter for a calling number "not in the phone book".

Thanks BigJim, It's a great feature hopefully we won't miss too much. I set up a few other filters, see what happens. Been tweaking the portal, it really is comprehensive.

Please let us know how the Voice Mail and SMS works for you.

Open a ticket and ask them.

I doubt they have a way yet, so then you open a feature request. It could take a while but at least you are on your way.

I did a request last night. Researching the issue, I found you can send all traffic to voicemail and filter by callerid  for regular routing. With a 100+ entry phonebook the other way is much better. We have been using the service for a few days now and have been very happy with it. Plan on porting to them today. Probably wont use SMS but the voicemail is good. The call detail records are awesome. If porting goes well we will be extremely pleased.

Porting was a piece of cake. Communication of the process was excellent. Service is working well. I already miss our phonebook only calls though. We have in only 3 days received numerous unsolicited calls. I see many people don't think white listing is a good idea. This is a residential line and  we have over 100 contacts in the book. Worst case the call went to voicemail. With email notification of a voicemail message, it wasn't a worry that we may have missed anything important very long.

By "unsolicited" do you mean telemarketers/robodialers?  If so, it is quite easy to set up Nomorobo using Ring Groups on VoIP.ms.

Thanks Taoman! I never heard of NOMOROBO. It was easy to set up, we'll see what happens.

I set up NOMOROBO on my 2 Voip.Ms lines. The install went smoothly.

It will be interesting to see if the calls stop.

Not that it really matters since it only costs fractions of a penny but you can configure your Robo call to use a toll free number also. You can just dial the number directly or since VoIP.ms peers with SIP Broker you can use them also. I use SIP Broker with this Nomorobo number:
**275*18667326184

Works well. VoIP.ms can get a little testy if a large percentage of your calls are to toll free numbers so I use SIP Broker.

It should stop many/most of them. Nomorobo can only stop valid NANP numbers that are in its database. Unfortunately, many telescammers are spoofing with non-NANP numbers/letters which Nomorobo ignores.

Luckily, the VoIP.ms CallerID Number Filtering allows you to filter all non-NANP numbers. Combine the two methods and it is an effective telemarketer block.
