I've had corrosion grow in a jack that was resistive enough to make an obi go "off hook" took me awhile to find it but I had to replace that wall jack.

Thank you so much everyone, especially Steve who provided excellent information. Unfortunately, I was not able to short the probes to zero. May be because it is a cheap Cen-Tech 7 Function digital multimeter, model #90899. I did let the reading run down to single digits before measuring the resistance. I tested several times on two jacks and they both read I (one? I?). I think it is infinite. I did do some experiments. Please see the link below. Since this issue does not fit the title. I started the following topic. Hope it will benefit others who search for the problem, because there is a wealth of information here.
