Question for the Brits:

I know next-to-nothing about UK telephony, except that some standards are different from the US, e.g. dial tone, ring tone, and the telephone jacks, among other things.

Do the OBi devices sold for UK use have a BT-style phone jack, or a RJ-11-style jack as in the USA?  If someone takes a US OBi to the UK, what sort of adapter might be required to plug in a UK telephone?

Do the UK OBi products ship with a UK-style plug on the wall-wart power adapter?

Thanks.

I briefly read through this article:  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_telephone_sockets, and it left me confused -- it implied that not all UK telephones' plugs are wired the same way.   Huh

The connector on the phone is not standardized: the connector at the wall is standardized by regulation, to allow individuals to use their own phones (interconnection), but the wire from the phone to the wall may be hard-wired to the phone, or use various connectors.
Typically it will have a 6P4C or 6P2C modular connector at the telephone end: this latter may be wired as per the RJ11 standard (with pins 3 and 4), or it may be wired with pins 2 and 5, as a straight through cable from the BT plug (which uses pins 2 and 5 for the line, unlike RJ11, which uses pins 3 and 4). Thus cables are not in general compatible between different phones, as the phone base may have a socket with pins 2 and 5 (requiring a straight through cable), or have an RJ11 socket (requiring a crossover cable).

You noticed - we Brits like to be just that little bit different  Smiley

Use this to connect an OBi110 / OBiLINE to a British Telecom wall socket for PSTN line:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Electronics-BT431A-RJ11-telecom-test-adaptor/dp/B000Q8L33E/ref=pd_sim_23_2/276-4780356-0916636?ie=UTF8&dpID=3138sxHjsIL&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL160_SR160%2C160_&refRID=1QBM1T6CR12FR2M2HJYX

Use this to connect a standard UK phone to any OBi Phone Port:

Yes. It's the only concession Obihai make for the UK market!

A UK configuration file is available on this forum (top of this section) to modify all required settings for UK use.
