My mother is far away and her out-of-warranty OBi100 suddenly stopped working with error code "Backing Off".  She has Build 2872, and cannot update the firmware with ***6.

I thought I read that as of yesterday, the ***6 firmware update method was supposed to have resumed working.  What happened?

If I follow the manual firmware update, will I be able to do it remotely, or must I be in its physical presence and on her wifi?

Hi Ellen:  you can use drgeoff's instructions here, to remotely apply the update:

Steve:  Fantastic!  Thanks for the prompt response, and for all your support here.

I have all her login credentials; how do i enable remote provisioning?

SteveInWA:
You need to be able to log onto the OBiTALK web portal, with her OBi added to its "dashboard".  If you can access the device that way, then you can get to the page I described, and all you need to do is to follow drgeoff's instructions.  His screenshot shows the "system start" parameter being selected, which enables the device to automatically download the firmware the next time it is rebooted (powered off and on again, or press ***9, then 1, on the attached phone).

If you can't get to her device on the OBiTALK dashboard, then it would be easier to simply follow my instructions and walk her through it over some other phone line, or web chat (Skype or Google Hangouts or plain old telephone call).

I can log onto any account she has, and device is in her Dashboard, but under Auto Firmware Update/Method, the Value is grayed out = "Disabled", and I cannot change it.  Drgeoff said his method works if remote provisioning is enabled; apparently hers is disabled.  If it matters, the Device Default box in that row is unchecked, and I can't change it.  How do I Enable remote provisioning?  Thanks in advance.
