New setup, can not use GV dialer to call my GV number

Hi all, cant seem to find an answer.  I have had a GV # for years.  With Second OBI box recieved, I attached the GV # to the new Obi device.  I regularly use the GV dialer in chrome to call numbers for work.  I cant find a way to get it to ring the Obi phone.  Am I missing something or will this not work?  Do I need to pay for a non GV number to attach to the OBI to do this?

Hi:

OBi devices emulate (act like) Google Chat XMPP clients.  Google discontinued all use of Chat within its service and its user interfaces.  You can no longer select an OBi (chat client) as a call-with target.

You can easily add a free inbound telephone number from Callcentric as a forwarding phone number on your Google Voice account, configure that number as a service provider (e.g. SP2) on your OBi, and then have Google Voice use that number as a call-with target from the Chrome extension or from Gmail.

Get a free FireRTC account here:

Use Chrome to sign into your account.
It looks like a softphone.
Now call your GV number.

That's not an answer to the question posted by the OP.  The OP is using the Google Voice extension in Chrome Browser.  The extension is a click-to-call feature, which uses the GV account's list of forwarding phone numbers.  It's a handy tool because it's easy to copy and paste a phone number into the extension to call that number.

Adding a real, 10-digit telephone number as a forwarding number is the solution to continued use of the extension.

mwinschel,

If you don't want to pay for a DID ($1.50/mo for e911), maybe this will work for you:

Not "monitoring closely", simply getting auto-notified of replies.

A free NY State inbound DID from Callcentric is all that is required for this solution.

A meta-discussion might be interesting as to how long CC will continue to offer free DIDs after the FCC regulations regarding intercarrier compensation reform and "bill and keep" take effect, but that's a good question for CC to answer.
