My brother-in-law gave me his OBi200 which he was no longer using.  When I attempted to set up the OBi200, I encountered this error:

----------------------------------
Add an OBi Device

The device has joined the network before, under another user's account.

If you want to add this device, please do a factory reset and

Click Try Again or click Cancel to return to the device list.
----------------------------------

Can I proceed with a factory reset, or should I ask my brother-in-law to remove the OBi200 from his dormant account?

A reset will not resolve this problem. The OBi needs to be removed from your brother in law's account. Doing so will get rid of the message.

However for some months there has been an ongoing issue that the **5 nnnn procedure very often times out and fails to add the device to the account. Obihai are aware but seem incapable of fixing it. Their advice is to keep trying.

Thanks, @drgeoff.

After my brother-in-law removed the device from his account (which had been inactive for 2 years), I was able to complete the setup of the OBi200.
