barge in + programmable keys (PK)

Love the barge in system (*96) as a poor mans intercom on 1022 and 1062. What great utility.

To use it, entering *96, which causes a new dialtone, then the speed dial code.

How to assign a barge in on a programmable key??

I have tried:
*96**9<obi number>
**9*96<obi number>
*96<obi number>

All fail

I have added a speed dial of
*96**9<obi number>
but it only works if I am on the phones speed dial menu (hardly useful)
if I dial the speed dial code straight from the begining, no worky.
other iterations of above do not work in any speed dial mode

I then tried to get the programmable key to dial the speed dial code, but does not work their either. Not such a surprise since the speed dial hardly works.

Any help? Tricks?
