Simonics gateway or Google Chat down???

It's Google Voice. It's free. This may be one of those cases where you get what you pay for. If you need or desire real service you may want to use a different ITSP. I can recommend Callcentric and Flowroute. I use GV / Simonics myself but if it fails I have Flowroute as my backup. Eventually I will take GV out of the picture. EDIT If you're looking for free to use with your relative it is available from Callcentric. I've used it for years with my kids. 1 little gotcha regarding the use of the "flash" button on your phones but I can live with it since I know about it.
I do have Callcentric as a backup (which continued to work during this outage), but the relative does not. Still, I prefer to use the direct GV setup for typical use as long as it is available and working. Especially now, since GVGW adds the CNAM feature, it makes it more convenient.
Regarding your "gotcha" with the flash button on Callcentric, I have not noticed anything unusual. Can you elaborate?

To avoid a traffic flood on our systems this is done in batches. Any time your SIP device is registered your GV account is marked to be logged in, and if it is logged out, the system continually tries to re-login until it succeeds.
Thank you, Bill.
Can you please explain the above in more detail? For example, if Gchat is logged out, and the server is rebooted,etc within 5 minutes, what steps and time frames take place on the GVGW side in order to get reconnected? If the user had no GVGW setup and went straight to GV via a newer Obi device, would it reconnect immediately once the Google server came back up? And in this case last night, did I not need to do anything on the GVGW help page, except just "wait" for the connection to complete?

@mo832, it strikes me that for your specific use case -- calling Obi to Obi -- you could just use the OBiNumber.

I know this doesn't help your relative to be able to make/receive "regular" calls.
Apologies if this was painfully obvious.
BTW, I only found this thread because I've been doing a little research on using the Simonics GVGW instead of moving to an Obi2xx

@ckck,
I appreciate your comment. As you can see above this problem went away after 1-2 hours. But in the meantime, we *did* (and have for a long time) use the direct OBI TO OBI calling. That is how I was able to confirm that his box was doing the same thing at the time.
This problem was very serious for both of us bc we need to use the Obi for outside calls both in and out. We only talk to each other a small portion of the total usage.
It seems to have been a temporary system outage or a server reset or something.
But thanks for any input. I figured this thread was "dead". I still welcome anyone who can report anything similar to this lately or recently.

Sorry I missed your questions. There is no "server reboot" or anything like that involved. It is simply that from time to time accounts are disconnected from GChat and often they are disconnected in large groups. When that happens all accounts that are enabled (meaning your SIP device [Obi] is registered) are flagged to reconnect immediately and the server will continue to try until successful.
