ObiHai212 - fax like static when landline phone answering machine pick up

I just finished setting up ObiHai212 with Google Voice and my landline. The OB212 is connected to a (landline type) Panasonic phone.

There's always loud static noise when the answering machine starts to play the recording whenever I call my landline phone number (and the static gets recorded into the voice message too). But when I call my Google voice number.. the phone's answering machine would play the recording clearly.

When I connect the phone directly to the landline.. there's no problem
when I pick up the call with the phone connected to Obihai212 there's no problem with the call.

anyone else experienced similar problem before? I feel like Obihai212 is trying to turn the call into Fax or something..
