Please Help Me Get Incoming Calls on My Obi200 to Work

I hope you Obi experts can assist:

Background:

-  Obi200 device

-  Firmware was automatically upgraded (software version 3.2.2 Build: 5859EX)

-  Obi200 is online and connected to my google voice account (I only use 1 account and have 1 GV phone number).

Situation:

-  Outgoing calls work well, same as always.

-  Incoming calls are the problem - An incoming call produces one (and only one) ring on the phone connected to the Obi200 Google Voice number and then no more rings.

-  Phones connected to google voice account:  besides the Obi, I have 1 cell phone number added to my google voice account, but I do not have it checkmarked right now.  That cell phone is using FreedomPop as the cell service.  FreedomPop does not have conditional call forwarding, which is why I uncheck that phone in the linked phones list.  That cell phone using the FreedomPop networked *used to* work just fine for incoming calls before Obi/Polycom upgraded the firmware.

So, when a call comes in to my google voice phone number (this would be from a non-google voice number), my Obi-connected phone (google voice number) rings once.  The caller then hears a message that the phone number is not currently available. They are unable to leave a voicemail message.

Observations:

I can see the incoming call on the google voice history log, which is how I can see who called after the 1 ring.

I've reset everything on the Obi side, deleting the google voice account, then re-adding it.

The obi phone appears in the google voice phone list as the Obi device (device number) sip.

I have the obi phone in google voice checkmarked to receive calls.

There is no such message.  Please be more precise.  Does the caller hear this woman's voice:  http://googlevoiceblog.blogspot.com/2010/06/new-voice-of-google-voice.html say "The Google subscriber you are trying to reach is unavailable." or similar wording?  OR, does the caller hear a telephone network error message, informing the caller that the number they called is not in service, or what, exactly?

It's the google female voice and she says (verbatim):  "The number you are trying to reach is not available at this time."

At the same time this message is playing on the caller's phone, I'm getting one ring (and one ring only) on the phone connected to my Obi device then no further rings.

This strongly suggests that you have inadvertently forwarded your Google Voice number to a non-working phone number.

Remember:  Google Voice is a call forwarding system, not simply a free VoIP service.  When someone calls your Google Voice phone number, Google Voice forwards that call to all of the forwarding destinations you have added to your configuration on the Google Voice settings page.  OBiTALK devices are simply one of those forwarding destinations.

Sign into the correct Google account that holds your Google Voice inbound phone number, here:  https://voice.google.com/settings

Delete any forwarding phone numbers that you no longer control.

What do you mean by "no longer control?"  I said I have only 1 linked phone number besides the Obi device itself.  That is a cell number on the Freedompop network.  It's assigned to a SIM card and that card is in my android phone.  It *used to* work without a problem as a number that GV could forward to.  It's only with this firmware update that I'm having this issue.  However, I'll do as you instruct and delete it.  That will leave me with *only* the Obi device in my GV account and no other linked numbers.

Ok... I just deleted the one forwarding phone I had (my cell phone on the Freedompop network).  What you see in the attached screen shot is what my GV phones screen looks like.  As you can see only the Obi device is now listed and checkmarked.

Update:

Removing the linked phone (which was my cell phone on the Freedompop network) worked.  I just tried calling my GV number and my phone connected to the Obi adapter rings normally.

Sooo.... I need to figure out what cell service I can get that will work with GV.  I have a Tracphone SIM card and service on that.  Will Tracfone service work?  In my area Tracfone runs off the Verizon network.  And Freedompop uses a custom APN on the AT&T network

Freedompop is dogpoop.  Sure, you can use any conventional land line or mobile phone service as a forwarding destination.  For best results, you'd want to use a carrier that supports Conditional Call Forwarding, so calls forwarded to that carrier number, which are not answered, will be sent back to Google Voice voicemail, vs. the carrier's voicemail.

Tracfone on Verizon Wireless should work fine.

Like I said, I haven't had any problems with freedompop until this update. It maybe dogpoop, but it's dogpoop that was working with GV/hangouts and could be a linked phone that got calls.

btw, I activate Google voicemail for any linked mobile phone in GV so Google VM will pick up the call if there's no answer, and the carrier's vm will not pick up the call.

not positive, but this message

I believe is what callers here if the phone number is blocked on the GV page.
You might want to check your account and verify that those numbers were not accidentally blocked.

SteveInWA

Specific to Google Voice, there are two different levels of blocking.

  • If you mark a call as spam, future calls from that number will not ring on your end, and will be immediately forwarded to your voicemail box.
  • If you click the "block" selection, then the caller won't connect at all; they will hear a typical telephone carrier message that the call can't be completed, and then it will hang up.
