Google is using a proprietary version of SIP that is incompatible with the OBi1 series of ATAs.
The experts have indicated that actually it is following SIP and related standards, although some standards that were not (commonly) used together previously in those ways. And in ways that some other common SIP implementations (for example, Asterisk) do not work with (and that the OBi1xx does not support, and as they are EOS will likely never see a formal upgrade from Obihai).
The OBi1xx itself is still viable for butt standard SIP (i.e. non-GV) uses, as it has been for some time, and that is how the GVGW works today, and it is hoped by Bill to be able to continue to work by transitioning to his reverse engineered Google SIP protocols (as documented at
gvsip.info).
