Re: Google Voice XMPP support will go away in June...no kidding this time!

Does this mean Obi 100 devices will work again (without the Simonics service)?

(And why can't I create a reply to that announcement?)

Actually they still work without Simonics using the third-party firmware from obifirmware.com.

If Google keeps to its schedule of retiring XMPP on June 18, your ATA will no longer work then.  Google is using a proprietary version of SIP that is incompatible with the OBi1 series of ATAs.

Google is using a proprietary version of SIP that is incompatible with the OBi1 series of ATAs.
The experts have indicated that actually it is following SIP and related standards, although some standards that were not (commonly) used together previously in those ways.  And in ways that some other common SIP implementations (for example, Asterisk) do not work with (and that the OBi1xx does not support, and as they are EOS will likely never see a formal upgrade from Obihai).

The OBi1xx itself is still viable for butt standard SIP (i.e. non-GV) uses, as it has been for some time, and that is how the GVGW works today, and it is hoped by Bill to be able to continue to work by transitioning to his reverse engineered Google SIP protocols (as documented at gvsip.info).
