Yes, whats happening sounds contradictory to me as well.

1) I'm unable to overrirde the dial tone when I try dialing **5... number
2) But when I dial ***0, i get to the automated voice.

Already tried dialing **9 222 222 222 but I end up to the same situation with long beeps like I receive when dialing **5.

The response to ***0 should be "Enter option followed by the pound key". If you hear a different message try using another phone.
