Selecting an option disconnect me and other problems

BigKetchup:
I called a company that has a menu system.  When I press a number, the phone disconnects and gives me a dial tone.  Also, sometimes I dial out, and instead of the recipient answering, I get loud static.

Anyone else have this problem?  Is there a solution?
