Hi, I have a question about two fields in my OBI 200 unit.

In the "Service Providers -> ITSP Profile -> SIP" page, there is a check-box called "X_SpoofCallerID". What is it for?

In the "Voice Services -> SPx Service" page, there is a text-box called "CallerIDName"". What is it for?

Isn't it that when you are making outgoing calls, your caller ID is controlled by the VOIP service provider? What can OBI units do in this aspect? If OBI can override/conceal your true caller ID, will it throw the whole telephone communication system into chaos?

Some ITSPs do permit values you insert in those fields to be used on calls you make.

Caller ID Name can be conveyed end to end (ie from your OBi) on a call that is SIP end to end.  Caller ID Name is not conveyed end to end on a call in which any section is over the conventional phone network. In such case any Caller ID Name the callee sees is generated by the callee's service provider doing database lookup on the Caller ID Number.
