Can the Obi1062 see 5 Ghz wifi networks?

I have an Obi1062 and it's connecting to our 2.5 Ghz wifi network. However, we have a much faster 5 Ghz wifi network that I'd like to connect it to, but that network doesn't appear when I scan for wifi networks to join. Can the 1062 connect to 5 Ghz networks, or is it limited to 2.5 Ghz? Thanks!

The OBi1062's built-in Wi-Fi is 2.4 GHz only.

Thanks drgeoff! Is there any way around this with an accessory? I don't have the option of plugging in an ethernet cable, unfortunately. Or is there another Obi phone that sees 5 Ghz networks? Thanks!

The OBi 1000 series do not have built-in WiFi.  You have to buy and plug in a OBiWiFi 5G dongle.  That dongle supports both bands.

The OBi 2000 series have built-in dual-band WiFi.

The 1062 does have built-in Wi-Fi.  The 1032 and 1022 do not.

Thanks all! Can the ObiWiFi 5G dongle be used with the 1062 even though the 1062 has built in 2G wifi, to get 5G on the 1062? If so, how?

Ah yes; I forgot about that model.  Thanks.

I don't have any more 1000 series phones to test, but drgeoff does, hence my memory lapse  ;)

However, I should have pointed out initially:  this shouldn't be an issue worth worrying about, unless you are currently experiencing audio problems caused by congestion on your 2.4GHz connection.  The 2.4GHz band has plenty of bandwidth to support VoIP, and 5GHz WiFi tends to have shorter range (distance from the access point to the client).

Incidentally, it doesn't answer your questions, but the OBi 2182 has built-in dual-band 802.11ac WiFi.  If you are interested in purchasing any more OBi IP phones, I'd suggest the 2182 instead.

Can an OBi1062 use an OBiWIFI5G?

There are two issues:

1.  Will the 1062's firmware recognise and configure the OBiWIFI5G dongle?

Probably.  I have an OBi1032 which usually connects via an optional plugin OBiWIFI 2.4 GHz dongle.  I unplugged that and put in the 5G version.  The phone booted and connected to the 2.4 GHz Access Point as before without any manual intervention.  I then used the phone's SCAN option and it saw the 5 GHz Access Point.  However despite many attempts using the on-screen menu, the OBi's on-board web server GUi and the portal Expert mode I could not get it to associate.  Always "authentication failed".  Eventually, though I don't know how, I did succeed.

The 1062 and 1032 take the same firmware.  My 1032 has 5.1.11 (Build 4858EX.1311)

2.  Can a 1062 be configured to use a USB Wi-Fi dongle in preference to or instead of its built-in Wi-Fi?

I have no way to try that.
