Do Obi products work with Google Voice for G Suite?
smaccona:
Our small business has signed up with the recently-launched Google Voice for G Suite, which is a supported/commercial version of Google Voice for customers who already have G Suite (i.e. corporate GMail, calendar, Hangouts, Chat etc).
Google Support personnel have explicitly told us that OBI products do NOT work with Google Voice for G Suite, only with the consumer-level Google Voice. Can anyone confirm whether this is the case, or does anyone have OBI products working successfully with G Suite?
Many thanks!

Hard to say whether they would technically "work" or not without actually trying it. My guess would be there is a different provisioning process that the current OBi products wouldn't support. But even if it worked you almost certainly wouldn't get any kind of support using an OBi device.
I'm guessing they'd want you to use one of these:

You can sign up to be notified by Google when Google Voice is available for your domain. The link mentions beta testing but that phase of it is over. You can still fill out the form.

SteveInWA:
Here is how the products work/will work with Google Voice:
<By the way, Plantronics and Polycom announced a new name for their merged company: Poly.>
The Obihai-heritage products, OBi 200, 202, 1000 and 2000 series, will continue to work with the consumer version of Google Voice. They will not work with Google Voice for G Suite.
The Polycom-heritage products, such as the VVX 150, 250, 350 and 450 will work with Google Voice for G Suite. They will not work with the consumer version of Google Voice.

@SteveInWA and @Taoman this is great information - I was not aware of the announcement about the VVX x50 phones.
The Polycom website lists two editions for the VVX x50 phones: the "UCS Edition" and the "OBI Edition", but when I look to purchase online all the resellers just call it "Polycom VVX 250 Business IP Phone" and don't differentiate between the two editions. Do either of you know if the hardware on these is identical, and it's just the firmware/software that is different?
