Porting Land Line Number to Google Voice

OK and sorry for causing you to shake your head. This is all new to me and I am anxious about the possibility of losing my long term phone number in the process.

I will get the free Google Voice number and I have just ordered an inexpensive unlocked GSM phone that should work with the sim card I have. Once the landline number is ported to google voice I will have no use for the unlocked phone but that's just the added cost of making this transition.
