cannot hear call recipient's voicemail

I am using google voice.  Everything works fine except... when I place a call from my regular cordless phone and the recipient does not answer I cannot hear their voicemail.  When I call using GV through my computer I can hear their vm just fine.

I cannot figure out what the problem can be.  Calling through the obi on my regular cordless phone, the call quality is good and everything seems to work normally.  However, I can never hear the recipient's voicemail nor leave them a message when they do not pick up.

Anyone have any idea what is going on?

Well, suddenly one can hear the voicemail pick up on the other end.  Did not adjust anything as far as I'm aware.  Weird.  Works brilliantly.  I really wuv this thing.
