I'm sure this has been discussed but I'm having a problem trying things together.

About a week ago the call volume to my Google Voice number started to increase. Starting a couple of days ago I started getting calls saying they were returning my call. This was the first time I picked up suspecting spam. The first two calls were from India so I thought it was some sort of new scam where they just need you to pick up. The third was from South Africa and I was equally kind. Now I think they were actually in the US.

This is using the number on Google Voice. There are no outbound calls listed on the Google Voice website. There are no outbound calls in the Obi call log. There is a second number that I use for Anveo inbound to get caller ID but the path is:

Google Voice on SP1 also rings Anveo on SP2. In effect with the 202 shows two lines ringing. Anveo used for inbound and GV used for out.

There are no outbound calls listed at Anveo.

This leaves me the dumb option which is a SIP hack that comes through Anveo, over to the OBI, pick up SP1 at GV and make calls that aren't recorded anywhere.

Just to cover voices, please tell me that isn't possible. That even if the SIP was hijacked it couldn't be used to make outbound calls without there being a trace somewhere.

The not-so-dumb option is that someone in India has picked my very good phone number (it ends in 7000) and is spoofing it from their end and there's not a damn thing I can do about it besides change my voice mail.

I know for a fact that it is being used for the IRS scam.

It is most common that someone will spoof a known number. If they can actually spoof the IRS's number, why not yours?

Change your voicemail to state that you number is being spoofed by unscrupulous people.

It seems like spam and fraud season is here.  I got two this morning, and a friend of mine was awakened at 4 AM by a call that claimed there was a warrant for his arrest and the police would arrive soon unless he paid.
