Answering landline with GV voice mail

Is there a better way to combine voice mail for GV and landline?  I got landline calls forwarding (using telephone company optional call forwarding) to my GV line.  I seem to have a lot of dropped incoming calls (rings a couple of times and is then gone, usually with no callerID).
