Hello,
I have tried to install several times.
I am using windows 7, with belking router.

"Add an OBi Device
  • Please pick up the telephone handset, and dial **5 5685
  • You may hang-up when you hear the automated response."

When I get to this screen and dial a number an hangup.
It times me out.  No device connection.

I have tried different cables, to the router.

Any help is appreciated.

Thank you.

RonR

Is you OBi getting an IP address from your router? :  Dial ***1 and see what the OBi reports.

If your OBi is getting an IP address, can you call the echo test? : **9 222 222 222

mike_forum

Hellp.

This still does not work.

192.168.0.120

Dhcp is disabled.

There is no service when I dial  **9 222 222 222

Dhcp is disabled.

Apparently you opted for a static IP address?

This would seem to indicate the OBi is not communicating with the Internet.

Can you ping the OBi (192.168.0.120) from your PC?

Can you log into the OBi (192.168.0.120) from your PC web browser?

mike_forum

Hello,

I have contacted time warner services.

I only have a dynamic IP address.

Please help.
I cannot ping the address you mentioned.

This is not a Time Warner issue.  192.168.0.120 is an IP address on the LAN side of your router.  If DHCP is disabled in the OBi, you must have disabled it and set the static IP address of 192.168.0.120.

I cannot ping the address you mentioned.

The IP address (192.168.0.120) is what you said the OBi was reporting.  If you cannot ping it or connect to it with a web browser, you have an Ethernet connectivity problem on the LAN between your OBi and your router.  This would account for all your symptoms.

It might be a good idea to force a factory reset of the OBi by using a paper-clip to depress the reset button in the bottom of the unit.  Hold it for an extended period of time until the OBi reboots.

Then recheck ***1 and make sure it says "DHCP is enabled" and you can ping and log into the IP address reported.

mike_forum

Hello,

I still need your help.
The screen for the router states that DHCP is enabled.
However, when I dial the ***1 number it mentions
that DHCP is disabled.

The screen for the router states that DHCP is enabled.

That's probably the DHCP server in the router, which should be enabled, so it can serve (issue IP addresses to) devices like your OBi, PC, etc.

I suspect the Ethernet port in the OBi isn't getting along with the Belkin router.

Try the following:

1. Temporarily connect the OBi direcly to your modem, eliminating the router.  Power-cycle both the modem and the OBi after making the direct connection.

2. Recheck ***1 and see if DHCP reports enabled and you have a Timer Warner IP address (non-192.168.?.?).

3. Try making a call to **9 222 222 222

4. If the call is successful, there's a problem between the OBi and the router.

5. Reconnect your router to your modem and the OBi to your router.

6. Power-cycle the modem, router and OBi.

7. Try making a call to **9 222 222 222

8. If you could successfully call **9 222 222 222 with the OBi connected directly to the modem but not through your router, try the following:

A. Dial *** 0

B. Enter option 27 and press #

C. Press 1 to set a new value

D. Enter a value of 1 and press #

E. Press 1 to confirm/save

F. Hang up

G. Wait for the OBi to reboot

9. Try making a call to **9 222 222 222

10. If the call is successful, you're probably good to go.

Hello,
I have tried the straight connect to the time warner modem.

I tried ***1 and received the following feedback:
192.168.0.120   and also DHCP is disabled.

Afterwards. **9 222 222 222,   I receive no service is available.

I have rebooted devices and still does not work.

Stewart

What is model of your Belkin router?  I'll try to post some compatible settings.

If you have reset the OBi to factory defaults as instructed in Reply #5 and it still reports 192.168.0.120 + DHCP is disabled regardless of what it's connected to, it would appear you have a defective OBi.

A factory reset OBi not connected to anything should report "There is no IP address available" and "DHCP is enabled".

Hello,

My belkin router is model number:

My router is model number:  Belkin F5D7234-4 v3.

I have tried to disable the firewall.
Afterwards, rebooted modem, router, and obi100.
This still does not work.

Thanks for advice.

RonR

mike_forum,

If the OBi doesn't work when the router isn't even in the loop, the router can't be the problem.

Stewart

mike_forum, please do the following, but stop when something doesn't work as expected and report results.

1. Your router has four indicators on the front panel, labeled 1 ... 4.  These correspond to the four gray ports on the back.  When you plug the OBi into one of those ports, the corresponding indicator should light up.  If it doesn't, try resetting the OBi to factory settings with a paper clip, as detailed by RonR.  If that doesn't help, and you are sure that the Ethernet cable from the OBi is ok, the OBi is probably defective.

2. Pick up phone attached to OBi and dial ***4.  You should hear the current IP address (192.168.0.120) and then be offered some options.  Press 1 to enter a new value, then press 192*168*2*120#.  When prompted, press 1 to confirm/save.  Hang up phone and wait 30 seconds.  Pick up phone and dial ***1.  You should hear the new IP address (192.168.2.120).  If not, stop and post what happened.

3. From a command prompt on your PC, can you ping 192.168.2.120 ?  If so, proceed now to step 4.   If not, can you ping 192.168.2.1 ?  If not, stop and post.  Pick up phone and dial ***0.  Enter option 27#.  If the value read back is 1, stop and post.  Otherwise, press 1 to set a new value, press 1#, press 1 to confirm/save.  Try pinging 192.168.2.120 again.  If it fails, stop and post.

4. Open your browser and type 192.168.2.120 in the address bar.  If you cannot access the page, stop and report what error is given.  Otherwise, log into the OBi.

5. Navigate to System Management->Network Settings.  Uncheck all the Default boxes under Internet Settings.  Enter these values (some may already be set as below):

AddressingType: Static
IPAddress: 192.168.2.120
SubnetMask: 255.255.255.0
DefaultGateway: 192.168.2.1
DNSServer1: 8.8.8.8
DNSServer2: 4.2.2.2

Click Submit.  When "reboot required" appears, click the Reboot button.

6. Test OBi by dialing **9 222 222 222.

mike_forum

Hello,

I have tried step 1, everything works. At that stage, panels 1 - 4 light up accordingly.

2. Pick up phone attached to OBi and dial ***4.  You should hear the current IP address (192.168.0.120) and then be offered some options.  Press 1 to enter a new value, then press 192*168*2*120#.

When trying this set up, I still only get 192.168.0.120
after checking and changing.

5. Navigate to System Management->Network Settings.  Uncheck all the Default boxes under Internet Settings.  Enter these values (some may already be set as below):

AddressingType: Static
IPAddress: 192.168.2.120
SubnetMask: 255.255.255.0
DefaultGateway: 192.168.2.1
DNSServer1: 8.8.8.8
DNSServer2: 4.2.2.2

Will a dynamic IP address work.  I have tried both verizon dsl, and time warner high speed internet.

I cannot get the obi100 to work.

I am going to have to send this back tomorrow.

Thanks for all your help.

Stewart

One last shot:

With the OBi not connected to your network, put a paper clip in the reset hole on the bottom.  Press until you feel a click; hold it until you see the device reboot (wait at least 30 seconds before giving up).

If the reset succeeds, with the unit still disconnected from the network, pick up phone and check ***1 again.  It should say DHCP enabled.  If not, it's IMO defective and I agree that you should send it back.

If the reset fails, remove power from the unit, press the paper clip in until it clicks, apply power while holding the clip in and continue holding for 30 seconds.  Then, release the clip, wait for the unit to come ready, and check ***1 again.  If it still reports DHCP disabled, give up.

BTW, when you previously attempted to change the IP address with ***4, did the unit acknowledge saving the new value, or was there some kind of error?

mike_forum

Hello,

I just tried the reset and reboot.   It still did not work with resetting the DHCP values.

Will a dynamic IP address work.  I have tried both verizon dsl, and time warner high speed internet.

Will a dynamic IP address work

Thanks,

Will a dynamic IP address work?
This problem is not related to a static or dynamic Internet address.

We can try setting your router to match the 192.168.0.120 address of the OBi.  Log into the Belkin and go to LAN Setup->LAN Settings.  Under IP Address, you should see 192.168.2.1 .  If you don't see that, stop and report what you see.  Otherwise, change the third box to 0, so it now reads 192.168.0.1 .  Click Apply Changes. After the router reboots, you will need to reboot your PC.  You should now be able to access the router at 192.168.0.1 and Internet access should still be working.

Now, reconnect the OBi to your router and try to ping it at 192.168.0.120 .  If that succeeds,  put 192.168.0.120 in the address bar of your browser and try to log into the OBi.

If you get that far:
Navigate to System Management->Network Settings.  Uncheck all the Default boxes under Internet Settings.  Enter these values (some may already be set as below):

AddressingType: Static
IPAddress: 192.168.0.120
SubnetMask: 255.255.255.0
DefaultGateway: 192.168.0.1
DNSServer1: 8.8.8.8
DNSServer2: 4.2.2.2

Click Submit.  When "reboot required" appears, click the Reboot button.

Test OBi by dialing **9 222 222 222.

After changing the router LAN address, you may need to reboot other devices on your network.

If something goes wrong and you lose control of the router (very unlikely), see page 10 of the manual for how to reset it.  http://cache-www.belkin.com/support/dl/man_f5d7234-4_v3000_pm01110-a_g.pdf .

I would like to thank everyone for all your help.  I had to purchase a new obi110 hardware device.
Afterwards, setup took less than 10 minutes.

Thank you again.
