Messed up my setup (I think)

Hi-
Brand new to this forum and hoping for an answer.  I set up a GV number before receiving my OBi, with my old e-mail address.  I have recently set up a g-mail account, and today I received my OBi.  However, when I went through the set-up I got the 'Backing Off' reply.  I want to use the GV number that was set up with my old e-mail address.  Is this possible or should I get a new GV number using the g-mail address?  I hope this makes sense.

"Google Chat" has to be one of the linked "phones" in Google Voice. To get it there, you need to make a voice call from gmail. So I think the answer is yes, it needs to be setup with a gmail account. You can however have Google move your current voice account to your new gmail account.
