Message indicator sound when picking up phone

Fasttimes:
I'm using GV and the Obi 100.  When I pick up the phone I hear the "fast" dial tone for a few seconds before I get a steady tone.

I don't have any GV items in my inbox/voicemails, etc.

Is this normal?

Don't look only for voice messages. Also look at any other type of GV messages, eg: SMS, etc.. Also empty any messages in the Trash can.

I've deleted EVERYTHING.  Still getting the fast dial tone.

Got it... Looks like I had a "notification" from Google+

Is there a way to only get notifications from voicemail and/or SMS?

I'm not that familiar with all the GV settings. I only use it for outgoing, since I am in Canada GV is somewhat useless for us Canadians because we can not get Canadian numbers. No one calls me on my GV number.
