Wait for 2nd Ring

For now I have put a tag on my  phone to not answer on the first ring. The problem is that if I answer on first ring coming in from either line 1 or line 2 the connection is not made and the calling phone continues to ring. I have tried it several times with the same results. 2nd ring, things seem to work OK.

My first thought is that possibly GV does not transfer the call quickly enough to answer on the first ring. Is that the case, or is something else causing this and I just need to live with it?

Also, I shut down all my computer equipment every night to save energy, but also to get a new IP for security reasons. So far Obi has not had a problem with this but I wonder if there is any long term problem with this habit. I did leave just Obi up the first night and one light blinked constantly apparently hunting for a connection so I started shutting it down with the other equipment. Leaving Obi powered up is not a problem if it causes it no problem to be continually searching for a signal. But leaving the modem on 24/7 is not an option. I have two sources for emergency calling, a phone on my DSL and cell phone.

I guess my question would be, why is your system so interesting to hackers that you would want a new IP every day?

With an appropriate router (assuming you are not dialup), you should be protected from most security issues. You can turn off ping and remote admin, etc.

I won't tell you you shouldn't do this, but I was one of the security guys at a big computer company fro 18 years. I'm on cable and have had the same IP addres for months.

The same reason your's or anyone elses is including that company you worked for, the bank you use and the United States Dept of Defense. That isn't the question here. My question was if shutting power down to Obi at night would cause it any harm or if there is an advantage to leaving power on to it even though there is no internet connection. Part of the reason for the world wide energy problem is all the computer equipment left on when not in use, such as mine at night. The new IP is a great bonus though if someone has associated you and your business with a given IP number. To each their own on that point. My choice is to shut down at night.

I also run at least 5 antivirus/malware apps on each of my computers. Guess I am just very security conscience. Now to my question.
