So if I installed my own Asterix server here at home - and use my own domain, I could configure DID to ring something like 4441234234@joehorton.com?

With no server at all you can get a SIP DID to call your OBi direct. See:

OBi will ignore the number before the @ but you can direct it to the port of your choice e.g. 5061 for sp2.

I think that is one of the lesser talked about abilities of the unit. This ability makes installing the OBiAPP less useful. Still the main advantage of the OBiAPP is that it uses the OBiTALK service to pass CID on a forked call.
