Charter (VOIP) service not working to get 911

BillDoe:
I have my Obi set up for Google voice (no 911 service) but my wife has her business line through Charter (cable) which does provide 911. Advised by Charter I could put a splitter on the Line OUT jack and run one cord to her phone, the other to the Obi. So far, when I test 911 i keep getting "there is no service available" message, but she has no problems making calls.

I changed the configuration for sp2 to GENERIC PHONE SETTING and selected 911 box (unselected others since i only need this line for 911) Do I need to change anything else?

BillDoe,

You do not say which OBi device you have. If this is a physical line coming in via a line-splitter, then you need to use the Line Port of an OBi110. Do not plug anything except phones in to any OBi Phone Port, you may do damage.

If you do have an OBi110 with this line plugged into the Line Port, then the default is for 911 to go out on the Line Port. Remove all references to 911 in any other Service Provider. Ensure that the Phone Port OutboundCallRoute is set to its default setting.

More details:

Its a 110. Charter confirms I get 911 through their line. I am splitting the Charter line out jack - one goes to wife's phone (business) the other to the LINE port of the 110. She is having no issues making/receiving calls. However when I dial 911, i get a fast busy signal.

The PHONE port on the Obi is connected to another phone. I am using GV on SP1 as the other phone service.

Unselect 911 here. You will be using "line" not sp2 for 911.

Can you make calls on the Charter line - dial **8 followed by a working number. (I'm assuming that your Primary Line is set to sp1 as you use gv, so the **8 code is needed to call via the Line Port.) Also, try pressing # (which connects you direct to line) and see if you can use the Charter line. This will confirm the OBi110 is connected correctly to the line.

BillDoe:
Outboundcallroute is checked as"Obitalk settings" and there is a red ! next to Primary line which is also checked for Obitalk settings and set to SP1.

Do I need to make any changes to the Outboundcallroute string? It is currently :

{([1-9]x?*(Mpli)):pp},{(<#:>|911):li},{**0:aa},{***:aa2},{(<**1:>(Msp1)):sp1},{(<**2:>(Msp2)):sp2},{(<**8:>(Mli)):li},{(<**9:>(Mpp)):pp},{(Mpli):pli}

My previous comment about SP2 is no longer true - I reverted back to NOT CONFIGURED on SP2.

As to your suggestions:

Can you make calls on the Charter line - dial **8 followed by a working number. (I'm assuming that your Primary Line is set to sp1 as you use gv (CORRECT), so the **8 code is needed to call via the Line Port.) I dialed **8 and a local number - got a fast busy

Also, try pressing # (which connects you direct to line) and see if you can use the Charter line. This will confirm the OBi110 is connected correctly to the line. I dialed # and a local number, again got a fast busy
