Google Talk indicator is always "offline"

I'm using Obi100 with my Google Talk account. I also use the same account for IM via a desktop application. Before I connected OBi100 using my Google Talk account, my presence status displayed correctly to people that have me on their contact list. But now I always appear as "offline" to them. IM messages go back and forth fine but the status indication is broken.

Is there a way to fix this? Maybe there is a way to tell Google XMPP server to prefer the status indication of my desktop client and not what OBi100 tells it?

Any workaround suggestions will be appreciated. I want to avoid creating a separate Google account.

Am I the only one having this problem? Does anyone else use their Google account for both, OBi and IM?
