Quality Issue and Troubleshooting Help - Person I call hears drop outs

(1/1)

enelsonmo:
Hello,

I have Time Warner Cable. My network setup is
Cable Modem<->Airport Extreme<->Linksys switch<->ObiTalk 110.
(all links are cabled; nothing is wireless;cable modem is in bridge mode (no dhcp); Airport Extreme is the dhcp router)

I am using Google Voice as my VOIP provider ObiTalk 110.

The issue I have is when I call someone from my ObiTalk or someone calls me on my ObiTalk, I can hear their voice without difficulty. Everything sounds great! But when I talk, the other person hears drop outs. They can only hear every few words.

Any ideas on where to start troubleshooting?

Thanks!

Eric

I suggest you run the VoIP test from the Visualware.com web site.

Thanks for the reply! I went to visualware.com and received my results.

My jitter score is 9.2 ms --> Unpredictable but should be able to sustain a constant flow of data.
Packet Loss is 0 so that's good.
MOS score is estimated to be 4.0.

With these scores, what should I do next? How do I increase/better my jitter score?

Thanks!

Eric

enelsonmo:
Oh, the Downstream jitter is low so I think that is why I can hear the other person so well. The Upstream jitter is high (9.2 ms) so I think that is why the other person hears my voice drop off occassionally.

Am I right about this?

If I am, how could I have time warner cable improve my upstream speed.?
