The plan is to buy- and cover all the costs for a relative in france to allow not-expensive calls many-a-week between france and USA. It's what the awesome brother does.

1
Is there an Obi device made for the french market?  I would hate to incinerate devices messing with power converters

2
assuming the obi device is able to receive appropriate power and has broadband behind a not too evil NAT:

2a
can USA obi call france obi using SIP or obitalk -- at zero financial cost AND NOT using evilgooglevoice?

2b
can france obi call USA obi using SIP or obitalk -- at zero financial cost AND NOT using evilgooglevoice?

3
can iNums be assigned one to each respective obi device?  Without relying upon skittish dDNS?

4
Can each obi be reached through SIP Broker?

4b
SIP Broker peering?

4c
with which recommended dialplan supporting also iNum?

5
Assuming each is registered to CallCentric can each obi be reached through callcentric 1777?

5b
with which recommended dialplan supporting also iNum?

5c
which dialplan supporting:  iNum, SipBroker peering, CallCentric 1777?

5d
all of 5c but using SipSorcery premium?

For paid PSTN I shall very likely be using voip.ms .   Is obi110 or obi202 better suited to essential free nongv use outlined above AND second itsp ?

I can answer some of your questions.

1. The power adapter is rated for up to ~240V input.

2a. Yes, either SIP (e.g., a free IP Freedom Callcentric account) or ObiTalk device to device or with a free iNum.  The Quick Start Guide at http://www.obihai.com/docs/OBi110QSG.pdf shows you how to connect to another Obi endpoint - just dial **9 and the Obi Number found on the bottom of the unit.  Also note: **9 222 222 222  Obi Echo Test

2b. Yes, the only cost is your internet service and the obi device cost.

3. Yes.  You mentioned Callcentric.  They can give you a free iNum. http://www.callcentric.com/features/inum_numbers

4. Yes, as long as your provider allows sip dialing. For example, this can conveniently be set up through speed dialing on Callcentric.  An example of a provider who does not allow sip dialing is CallWithUs.

4b. Yes.  Lots of posts on this forum about that, e.g., see http://www.obitalk.com/forum/index.php?topic=1100.0

5. Yes.  You could set up Callcentric as either SP1 or SP2 or as a Voice Gateway (if you have at least one sip service configured), see http://www.obitalk.com/forum/index.php?topic=526.0 and http://www.obitalk.com/forum/index.php?action=printpage;topic=526.0 and http://www.obitalk.com/forum/index.php?topic=4977.0)

5b. See http://www.obitalk.com/forum/index.php?topic=2604.0

Jsureal,

On my Obi110, this is how I configured Voice Gateways for making both iNum and SipBroker calls.  It is based on this excellent post: http://www.obitalk.com/forum/index.php?topic=526.0

Obi Expert Configuration Menu => Voice Service => Gateways & TrunkGrps

I Used VG6 for SipBroker
Name : Sip Broker
AccessNumber : SP1(sipbroker.com)   [note: my provider on SP1 allows SIP dialing]
DigitMap : (<*>[x*][x*].|*[x*][x*].)

Test Numbers to Call via SipBroker:
**6 011 188888 connects you with the Sip Broker test announcement.
**6 10085 18005551212 tollfree directory assistance   (via tollfree.alcazarnetworks.com)
**6 8412  18005551212 tollfree directory assistance   (via sip.tollfreegateway.com)
**6 8412  18004444444 tollfree MCI callerid echo back (via sip.tollfreegateway.com)

I Used VG7 for iNum calling
Name : iNum
AccessNumber : SP1(sip.inum.net)   [note: my provider on SP1 allows SIP dialing]
DigitMap : (<8835100>xxxxxxxx|8835100xxxxxxxx)

Test iNum Numbers:
NOTE: Use only the last 8 digits of the iNum number (8835100 will be prepended for you with the above DigitMap).

**7 00000091 connects you with the iNum echo test.
**7 00000093 connects you with the iNum callerid readback

You'll also need to modify the Phone Port DigitMap and the PHONE Port OutboundCallRoute per the forum link above to add the Mvg6 and Mvg7 parts.

Of course, the easiest method in your case, since your relative will also have an Obi, is to simply dial device to device (e.g., **9 200 999 999)

Goodness, jwcmb, thank you kindly for your detailed assistance!!  Wow, and not an obitalk rep at that.

Can either obi110 or obi202 be used to have one itsp/sip account provide dialtone/dialout on physical_port_1 and a second itsp/sip account on physical_port_2?

more importantly calls to provider_1 ring phone on physical_port_1 & calls to provider_2 ring phone on physical_port_2?

this usage seems different than the VoiceGateways described in your linked threads which will take me some time to absorb :)

With the 202 there are slots for 4 service providers and 2 phone ports.

You can configure from 0 to 4 service providers to ring phone 1.
You can configure from 0 to 4 service providers to ring phone 2.

You can define which provider you want as default for phone 1.
You can define the same or a different provider as default for phone 2.

You can define which phone, both or neither to get voice mail notification.

Each phone can also have none or a specific 911 service configured for each of the phones.

With any of the Obis you can have a default outbound route, but can also force any particular call out any of the providers, as long as they accept outbound calls.

Jsureal, since your stated objective can most easily be met by calling directly from one Obi device to the other, Voice Gateway configurations could wait till later, giving you time to become more familiar with the device and its configuration options.

One other tip I'd like to mention is the star codes chart, which can be a handy reference. You can find it here: http://www.obitalk.com/forum/index.php?topic=4571.msg29973#msg29973

Have fun getting started with your Obi!  How nice to be able to so conveniently have calls with your relative in France!
