Any advice on how to procede would be most welcome.

See this topic:

Before you start see my Reply #58 on the 3rd page.
Ianobi includes every possible option and more in the inbound route.

If your only requirement is POTS use a SP2 inbound route like:
{8134219536>(Mli):li},{ph}

I won't be available much this morning. If you have questions I'll be back this afternoon.

So from that thread, it seems I need to have a sip account elsewhere, I can't just connect the phone directly to the OBI110, did I understand that correctly?

It is quite confusing to someone new to this device

There is no way for a softphone to register directly to the OBi.

I did get CSipSimple to work without registration on WiFi, but others couldn't get it to work on a mobile network. I don't have a data plan for my phone. Even if you could get it to work there is no way to route inbound calls to it outside your LAN. See starting with reply #26 on the same thread.

You could try OBiHai's OBiON app, but people find it buggy with poor quality audio.
It's a much easier install.

So basically I either need a third party SIP account, or an Astrix server?

One other question I have is, how do I get a UK phone to actually work with this thing? I get no dial tone when I plug a phone in.

To use a UK phone you need to make sure that you have the correct 431A socket to RJ11 plug adapter. Something like this:
http://soho66.co.uk/7369/all/1/RJ11---BT-Adapter-(with-Ring-Capacitor).aspx

The ring capacitor is needed for some older 3-wire phones. Most modern UK phones are 2-wire. With or without the capacitor you should get dial tone if the adapter connects pins 2 and 5 of the UK style 431A socket to pins 2 and 3 of the US style RJ11 plug.
